As it happens, it was my 15 year old niece who brought the article to my attention. Again, the article and accompanying pictures are not obscene, but probably would require some explaining if your boss notices you reading it.

Did you read the sequence of posts properly or just rushed into replying? If you read my reply carefully, you'll notice that my response was "No NSFW in general in the lounge", because the other poster said there's no such rule which stops people from posting NSFW material here. So, I quoted the guidelines for posting here in my reply to him. And to comment on your post, I did say that I agree with Roger that it isn't explicit (see my reply to aspdotnetdev above). But my point was, why bring in here something that's questionable to the Lounge? This is a programmers website, and a link I open from the lounge should not put me in an embarrassing situation where I'll have to explain things to my boss. Please use the soapbox as and when needed so the Lounge can stay clean.

It's a festival with giant wooden penises - my kid sister would love it Also, most people's work is more sensitive than their kid sister

I think there's an acute cultural difference here. But my point was that "questionable" material need not be brought into the lounge. And I don't want my boss to see me looking up "giant wooden penises" on the internet. I want the links posted here to be COMPLETELY Safe For Work.

Fair enough - who's voting all these posts btw? The OP?

Magic? I don't know.. I also see that the thread was moved - that does surprise me, especially now it seems "too late to fix"

That's because I made a post in the suggestion forum stating that the work safety of this thread is questionable. :)

Then you need to go to the "Work Safe" forum. You shouldn't be in the Lounge at work anyway. Cricket scores and the general discussions taking place in the Lounge are not work related.

Interesting article, especially considering that I plan to spend the weekend with some friends who currently live in Japan, but who are visiting relatives in Tucson this weekend. I plan to ask about this unique tradition when I see them - perhaps it explains their reason for leaving at this time. Americans are well known around the world for their peculiar sensitivity to views of the naked human body; other cultures consider us weird for that, and I tend to agree with that point of view. The body I have may be old, pale and skinny, but it's the one God gave me, and I'm not ashamed of it. I can see no valid reason for the down-votes on your post, but I encourage you to continue to post interesting stuff. I enjoy it, even if no one else does. And I don't much care about that; you're all just temporary creations designed to test me and frustrate me. Just a figment of my imagination, as Kilgore Trout would understand... Post on, lad! :-D

You should arrive with a giant wooden penis. :-D

Age makes that a problem. :( Drugs make it better.

True, but in this case it satisfies the far more stringent kid sister rule. It is anatomically correct, and there are no salacious overtones - it's just a news article reporting the facts in a non-provocative tone. In case no one has noticed, kid sisters are a bit more informed now than they were in my childhood, and the workplace mores should reflect that reality.

I would agree about on all the pictures but the girls eating candy. I can't believe it's KSS for any culture, no matter how innocent the girls looked.

It's springtime in Japan and that means one thing. Actually, two things. Penis festivals and vagina festivals. It may sound like a sophomoric gag. But these are folk rites going back at least 1,500 years, into Japan's agricultural past. They're held to ensure a good harvest and promote baby-making. http://www.globalpost.com/dispatch/japan/100315/japan-penis-japanese-vaginas[^] (Probably not work friendly.)
