Hi, Am in Holland now, visiting my Parents. My father is 86 today (19th March). He started his course of learning about computers when he was 75. ( Never realy understood electronics! He was a Mechanical Engineer, and his gripe before he got around to it was always, that a piece of electronics could be fried, without any outward visible signs. (At least when a Ball bearin Breaks...). There are long stories there, but however, To the Point. However, I'm using Vista here. The Look and Feel is entirely Different. All the Menus are in dutch,(The meaning of each menu item is ambiguous and unclear) and in a 'YesNoCancel'box, I still do not understand which is 'Yes''No'or 'Cancel' It is coming as a sudden shock to me, that I have as it stands, no chance to translate my own software into my own native language.

Yes = Ja No = Nee Cancel = Annuleren
PS: consider yourself lucky the keyboard is Qwerty! :)

I only read code that is properly formatted, adding PRE tags is the easiest way to obtain that.

My dad went back to college in his late 70's to pursue a degree in geology. Didn't have a chance to finish, but I've always thought that was pretty cool. :)

Well, Thank God, but somewhat Shifted, and keys in different places. Also see the MFC Forum for my response there. :)

Mine are Qwerty too, I order Dell or shop in the Netherlands; the Azerty keyboards that are standard in Belgium really stink for programming: digits need to be shifted, square brackets are at horrible locations, etc. :)

I assumed he had thick skin... given that his father is a dinosaur. ;P Sorry, but I don't find that very offensive. That's cool you're sticking up for somebody, but I don't know that the somebody you are sticking up for cares for you to do so. If it is, then my bad. If you, however, were personally offended, then my bad for that too.

Yes, it's certainly a challenge. I have software that swaps languages of dialogs, etc. on the fly via a menu selection. Getting words to fit into button, etc. can be challenging. So far all my stuff has been in English and Spanish, though.

It was something that had always interested him, and after he retired he began a formal pursuit of the subject. When we were both younger and he was introducing me to climbing, he always pointed out geological phenomenon and held forth on their points of interest. I was actually working at the University while he was attending; one of his classes was in the building where I worked and I'd bump into him standing with the other students outside his classes. We'd get some pretty puzzled looks from the other students when I'd stop to chat about goings on at home. :-D [edit] Me, I'm a dumbass - I don't know my geography from my geology. [/edit]

Well, what do you expect? I was speaking of something my father had done that I admired; I also implied that he was now dead. That sort of thing is typically pretty sensitive. If you want to joke about it, the joke had be pretty damned funny, and even then you're on thin ice. In this case, it wasn't that funny to begin with. But no worries. I've lived through worse. ;)

Now I understand, I didn't catch that. I thought by "didn't have a chance to finish" you meant "he got busy with work and life" or something like that. Mine died in his 40's, so I know what it's like and would not have been so insensitive had I understood your implication. :rose:
