No, this is not the norm. Sometimes some people do some foolish things here (one or two posts like this a week), and we try to educate them to use a more polite speaking and to get a better attitude. Normally, this works and the environment is good. There’s also a forum named The Soapbox[^], for more "heavy" topics. Browse some articles, the forum, or even, browse some pages on the lounge and soon you'll see that this is a nice community to be part of, and which I’m proud to be part of, with high level discussions and some very talented and intelligent people gathered from all over the globe. lazy isn't my middle name.. its my first.. people just keep calling me Mel cause that's what they put on my drivers license. - Mel Feik

Is it really important to keep people merely conscious, go against our values, and waste all that money just for the heck of it? It is wrong to keep people alive with machines since its unethical, the patients suffer greatly and the process costs too much. And what do we get at the end of the day? Nothing – just a dead body pained to death. First, it’s unethical in today’s society to have control over one’s life. Most religions are against this because they believe only The Supreme Deity has control over one’s life and many more believe that one’s fate has already been decided. Using machines to keep them alive is very wrong since you are trying to control the person’s life. There are some cases where patients on life support have survived but only for a little while. They are in such poor condition that it is almost equivalent to being dead. What’s the point of keeping them technically alive, but experientially dead? It is simply immoral to try to keep one who would die naturally alive with machines. The patients also suffer in the process – physically and also emotionally. They worry what would happen to them. Too much pressure is put on them. Their relatives are worried. Putting so much effort into keeping a suffering soul – who would rather die – merely conscious is pointless. Instead, we should use that effort on other patients who can recover instead of making the dead ones agonize in pain. One might argue that when being in the position of that patient, you would want to live. But, in some cases, the patients don’t want to live and would rather die and those who do say that they want to live are actually in denial and don’t know how much better off they are as dead then being put on machines and being subjected to torment greatly. It also costs a lot for such operations. There is too much cost for machines, doctors, nurses, hospital beds, etc. Which drain both the governments and the family’s resources? When we are certain that the person will end up dying, why spend all this money to keep them alive for a little time? It’s pointless – a great way to waste resources. You know I am new here, just signed on today. I hope that childish inmature posts and users like this is not the norm here, that would be very disappointing. I am surprised that the operators of this site will allow members like this. Profanity and name calling has really no place (in my OPINION of course) on a website that is purported to be a gathering place for professional, something which the child poster of this message is obviously not. Had this been on any of the sites I personally have administrative access of, this poster and his IP would have been banned faster than a politician accepts a bribe. /CMH

Well, I for one have posted some inappropriate things in the Lounge, which more experienced people have pointed out should have gone in the Soapbox. The Lounge is fun because there's all sorts of off-topic stuff (note that it says "no programming questions"). The other forums are excellent sources of information, and when I do have a programming question, I find that I get quite excellent answers, sometimes within a few minutes! Also, the articles posted seem to me to be of a higher caliber than what I've seen on other sites. CodeProject is an excellent place to learn many different aspects of programming. So, don't get discouraged because of one bozo. This does not represent the usual professional and fun CPians that I have come to know while hanging out in the lounge recently myself (and for certain of those CPians, I use the word "professional" quite loosely!!! :-D ) Marc Help! I for one didn't much like the post, but I am also very glad that this site doesn't kick people off terribly often. For one thing, I think we've all made a fool of ourselves online at one point ( I know I have ), and once you start kicking people off, where do you stop ? IPluris wrote: ad this been on any of the sites I personally have administrative access of, this poster and his IP would have been banned faster than a politician accepts a bribe. I rarely participate in sites where the admins kick off anyone they don't like the look of, and while that may not be worth much, I'm sure people with more to offer than I do feel the same. It's better to give people a good example than just to flex your muscles and feel proud to own a small corner of the web. Glad to have you here though, I hope you enjoy your stay. I don't go anywhere else much on the web anymore, as far as I am concerned, if CP is down, the web is down.
