Hard to beat the King, but at least you picked one of his lesser songs. I don't think I can outdo "Amish Paradise" for example. Al also has the benefit of high end sound equipment, professional musicians, etc. You really want to see me do a take on Copacabana?

I've been working on a parody song. And April 1 is a good day to bring it out on some level. I've gotten to thinking that since the last time I ever launched a song on the internet that there are new licensing schemes for copyrighting something but giving people the opportunity to spread it far and wide. I know this site, for example, has some such. Any suggestions regarding how to best license this to get it far and wide but keeping my name on it? Asking only vulgar wages I come looking for a job but I get no offers, Just a come-on from recruiters on the internet I do declare, there were times when I was so ronin I took some offers there Now the years are rolling by me documented easily I am slower than I once was And dumber than I'll be and that's not unusual No it isn't strange After changes upon changes The job's more or less the same After changes the job's more or less the same Lie la lie Then I'm laying out my sequel rows and wishing I was gone Going home Where the network color printers aren't bleeding me Leading me to going home In the breakroom stands a hacker a programmer by his trade And he carries some big binders Of ev'ry boss that dressed him down Or cut him till he cried out In his anger and his shame "I am leaving, I am leaving" But the hacker still remains Lie la Lie ...

I'm not sure what you mean. Your question sounds a little like a conversation where someone says "I can't breathe" and the reply comes back, "have you tried using air?" You mean to research the licensing? Or to distribute? The distribution would be the internet. There's no money in it so it pretty much has to be the internet. I would think that would be clear. Last time I did this was a while ago, as I said, and at that time the song changed in some interesting ways before it got back to me. And some people who wanted to publish had trouble getting getting ahold of me. Computerworld tracked me down, for example, but they had to do some detective work. I'd like to short-circuit that. All they wanted was permission to publish, and I was happy to agree with that song.

Smack it on a web page with a copyright statement (not too prominent; no-one likes arrogance), and let people who might enjoy it enjoy it. If the processes behind a web service require that you give them explicit or single-use-repro permission to add it to a site, they can e-mail you. There's not much detective work involved in clicking an e-mail link on a web page.
