Can I suggest the name Ryan for your new boy? It has a nice ring to it.

My life as I know it, is over. It will be replaced with, what people tell me, a wonderful new life. My wife gave birth to a healthy baby boy last friday, be it a month early, which did gave us a big surprise as we weren't ready yet. Tomorrow both mother and son can go home were we will be on our own to take care of him. (first one, so we're still inexperienced). By know everything should be in order ;-)

At least I have some holiday to get used to the idea :-) Wish me luck.

Congrats! It happened to us 2 years ago. Sleep, as you knew it, is no more. You have no idea what sleep deprevation until you have kids. It'll be the hardest job you've ever had and the one you wouldn't trade for anything. They really start to get fun at about 18 months. Ouor little guy is surprising us with new things he's figured out, says and does every single day. We've come to the realization that we can't possible teach him stuff fast enough to keep up with his advancement!

I remember being absolutely fascinated with the emerging intelligence, fostering and guiding that intelligence was one of the most rewarding experiences. And 20 years down the track if they still want to go out and have a beer with you then you know you did something right.

Congratulations!! You will now find that every man and his dog will come out of the woodwork and offer you advice on how you should do something, not do others, whatever... My only piece of advice to you (and thus proving my above statement) is to ignore what they tell you and do what's right for you, your wife and your baby!! ;-) Enjoy it - you are in for one hell of a ride!!

It's amazing to see how much work you can get done in a small amount of time if necessary, but if you want to take it at ease at birth, best make sure everything is arranged asap, suddenly (s)he's just there :)

Congratulations! And good luck! Me and my wife are expecting our first child in September, and we're also totally inexperienced and excited over everything. I think I'll make sure we have all the basics in time, as nature can be a bit unpredictable.

Actually I periodically suffer from insomnia so sleep is not really worrying me :-D (diapers on the other hand...)

Don't worry about it. I eventually gets to the point where you can change a really poopy diaper and still go back to finish eating your Spaghettios.
