I'm reading an interesting book on how free market ideas have made Australia poor and incapable of making much of anything. Obvioulsy the US is more of a basket case than we are. The book is suggesting that we're worse off than I'd have thought, tho. Obviously, I am not assuming this book is 100% right, but it's an interesting read.

High taxes and excessive government regulations stifle your economy, not free markets. Industry goes to where it can operate with the least resistance.

You mean resistance in the form of things like labor laws that stop the exploitation of children, and environmental laws that stop corporations destroying the earth ? Probably.

No, it's not, really. It's a regurgitation of something he read. If I try to discuss it with him, he will call me names. I was just taking a shortcut.

Please, for your sake, seek help. Your quality of life will increase in ways you did not know it could. So far, we have pledges that would cover a trip to the psychiatrist roughly every two weeks, and would at least start to cover meds. The only restriction is that we have to agree to the particular doctor, just to make sure you are not having a friend print out receipts for you.

High taxes and excessive government regulations stifle your economy, not free markets. Industry goes to where it can operate with the least resistance.

Ok, Mr Free Market, explain to me why totally free markets always result in monopoly or at the very least defacto monopoly?

You measure democracy by the freedom it gives its dissidents, not the freedom it gives its assimilated conformists.

Monopolies are more common when their are complex regulations, or regulators that regulate in favor of the monopoly (which is all too common) In a free market, if there ever was a monopoly, it would have a hard time competing with business that can offer a better product at a lower price, which would cancel their monopoly.
