What, exactly, is "down" about that? "I'm off on holiday! Keep the house clean while I'm gone!"

I wanna be a eunuchs developer! Pass me a bread knife!

Its finally hit me, the realisation that due to my circumstances I am stuck here.. Even though they like to call me a Development Manager My job has been reduced to a glorified Code Monkey.. Just typing in Code and responding issues *yawn* No design, no Customer interaction... I really want to grow in my role but there is no upward progression here. If anything people are leaving in droves. Why Im stuck here you ask? I live about 30 minutes outside of a large city and rely on Public Transport or Car to get to my job. Recently our glorious local politicians have cut the local bus service to the bone where I now have to rely 100% on my Company Supplied Car. Now here is the problem, Can I find another job with a Car? Nope.. The only jobs with a Car Allowance around here are for "Managers", guess What I dont have enough experience. So my employers have boxed me in my giving me a car. So why Dont I buy one? Well I would never be able to afford to run it. Fuel, Tax etc is terrible in the UK.. So I could quit my Job, but I could never commute to the replacement job due to not being able to afford or reach transport. Hence Why my Job (and life) Sucks.

This post is invalid because saying that something sucks today implies there's nothing you could do about it by direct action on your part. You can indeed quit, or even show up at work and shoot the place up, and effect immediate change in your status.

Fuel is only going to increase, in fact it goes for all motoring costs. They say the next big industry to get into is farming believe it or not, maybe you should try that.

Been there, done that. While it indeed does change your status, it keeps you away from the sun for quite a while (and I got a reduced sentence while I shot only managers, no real workcraft).

The odds that you remain free to move about the country is wholly determined by your willingness to resist arrest without getting yourself killed. Besides, it wasn't in the original specs...
