Which - once again - depends almost entirely where you are. You have to be able to alter your sensibilities so that you can take advantage of an otherwise target-rich environment.

Tesco are stocking steak and kidney puddings again! Seriously, when the slump happened I noticed the diversity in supermarkets dropped drastically and now it is recovering a bit. Any other subtle indicators that you can think of?

I don't "collect" guns or ammo in the sense of being a collector. I purchase guns for specific uses and practice with them regularly. There's no point in owning a gun unless you know how and when to use it. I have enough ammo for each gun I own, and unless I buy a subsequent weapon of the same caliber, I won't be needing any more ammo on hand than I already have. "Collectors" gather weapons of significant jistorical significance, and hide them away thinking they'll become valuable. They generally do not fire these weapons, or even chamber a round in them. For example, my dad has a .30-30 Winchester manufactured in 1956 that has never been fired or even had a round chambered in it. I keep pestering him to give me the rifle but I think he won't because he knows I'll go out and "ruin it's value" by taking it to the range and putting a few hundred rounds through it. My hobbies over the years have included collecting diecast cars, building wooden ship models, building plastic model cars, and full-sized Ford performance vehicles of the 60's.

When my grandfather died, there were three separate auctions: one for the house, one for his shop equipment, and a final one for his gun collection. He had over 300 weapons, most of which he had fired at least once. While he was not a 'certified' gunsmith, he liked buying and restoring old guns. In the final tally, his gun collection was worth more than the house and shop combined.

Yes. And I hope it isn't just a blip. Here in Denver: The last two weeks I was unable to take a day off during the week because of recruiters contacting me and me having to follow up. Previously the amount had increased from almost nothing in early January to a small level then it did this big jump. The job boards for my sets of skills (all IT related to reporting and databases) indicate a marked jump in people looking for workers. The price of meat in the supermarkets has gone back up. For a while you could get some really good deals but now the deals are in the 'okay' range. Although possibly this was due to threats of a local grocery strike more than an economic issue. I'm seeing more of a spread of new businesses. My wife's favortie tea shop is seeing a rise in business, and in the US that is strictly a luxury indicator. It sells tea, desserts, and a variety of luxury linens and other items from France. The only people who spend money in there are people with discretionary income. I'm more worried that the price of gold hasn't really backed off which is tied to future worries across a wider range. In 2008 the average price was 871.96 (USD), in 2009 it was 972.35 (USD). I just saw a snapshot indicating it is at 1152.80. I haven't found the Q1 of 2010 numbers yet. "You plan to break into the world's largest bank, but not to steal anything. Why? " x
