Do any of you use Automatic Testing Tools? Any recommendations?

Sorted by quality. Silk is first. Eddie Velasquez wrote: Do you have any opinions on them? On the tools themselves, no opinion. They are in fact pretty much the same, and both have been made initially by hardcore hooking specialists. They have evolved over the years like good wine. On automatic testing, this does not replace the fact you need to know what to do. Which is obvious btw. Used? Yes. In my former company. Finally, here is a good url [^]for more material. No tool rating there though, but at least ou have something to lurk about.

Rational Visual Test (latest is 6.5) doesn't play with 2k or XP and it seems like a dead or dying product. We're using Rational Robot at the moment, it has more features than you would possibly want, but it works well.

Avoid Rational Robot.

Eddie Velasquez wrote: Why? Off the top of my head, in no particular order:
- Scripting language just like VB except with fewer features.
- Editor barely a step up from Notepad
- Debugger barely qualifies as one
- No support for non-ActiveX custom controls
- Incomplete support for several common controls (esp. ListView)
- Pain-in-the-ass licensing scheme
- Large, involved installation can invalidate testing environment
- Doesn't play well with .NET (they may have corrected this by now though)
- Confusing UI, general flakeyness, annoying tie-ins to other Rational products
It *is* a fairly complete solution, and has probably met the needs of many. Given the huge amount of time our QA team (and Rational support with them) has spent struggling with it however, and noting that its cost makes it a serious investment for most groups, i would look long and hard for a different product or solution before considering Robot.
