Despite my recent post this is not for me... :(( I'm travelling to France to work... A good friend of mine has asked me about a travel I made several years ago to Paris in order to get more information on the hotel I stayed as he heard that Paris hotels are not as good as some other hotels (German, Denmark, Spain, Italy...) with the same number of stars and he wanted more information on that. I recommended him tripadvisor, but he told me that he is reluctant to believe in that... :~ (I can't understand why). Anyway, my experience in Paris (in hotel terms) was not great... it was at it's best a so so experience... so I thought on asking here... Any of you know of good and cheap (of course) hotels in Paris? What I've done is to recommend him the Express Holiday Inn Place d'Italie as I've been in several Holiday Inn hotels and they are always perfectly clean and nice enough... Thank you!

it really depends what you call cheap - I found 'you get what you pay for' is very applicable for Paris accomodation - so weigh up the exchange rate as well. Of course, Paris being Paris, you cant compare room sizes to what I'd get here in Aus or you might get out of Europe.... Last time I was there - Oct '09, I stayed in a 'studio' here http://www2.citadines.com/en/france/paris/bastille_marais.html[^] it had the advantage I could shop locally and cook if I didnt want to go out. The Citadines group has apartments all over Paris 'g'

I agree with this post. If staying more than 2,3 nights in one place, renting a small studio with a functional kitchen is the best thing to do. You save a lot of money on food (unless your trip revolved around eating out in great restaurants). M.

I also only had good experiences with Ibis hotels so far, in different countries. I stayed in Ibis Tour Montparnasse[^] (not to be confused with Ibis Gare Montparnasse) last May and what Caslen wrote applied there as well: It was perfectly adequate, plus the staff was friendly and helpful. In general, I'd recommend to skip the hotel breakfast in Paris - too expensive for what little you usually get. I also stayed in Hôtel Coypel[^] earlier this year, but wouldn't really recommend it; it was just adequate, but the bed was too short for me, and there were ants in the tiny bathroom.
