Minor edits

What exactly constitutes a minor edit? There are a bunch of questions in quick answers that have been bumped up because of minor edits. But the comparision does not show any differences. [^] was answered quite a while ago but now appears on the second page of latest questions! looks like questions are being edited just to get points.

I think its the last answer that has the edit. Christian has edited it to enquire why somebody has dignified the question with a response a month after it was originally posted.

Tony Richards added the "GimmeCode" tag.

There appear to be a one or two people going round QA adding tags (sometimes of questionable value) but not commenting on their edits or adding answers.
It's time for a new signature.
I think the QA system is just not working the way it was intended to. We've got people demanding code, another set of people abusing them, a set of people high-voting the abusers, and a bunch of bots spamming about cheap online medicine. :|

I don't know. That sounds like a normal exchange on the interweb. :)
Chris Meech I am Canadian. [heard in a local bar] In theory there is no difference between theory and practice. In practice there is. [Yogi Berra]

In this case, the tag was appropriate. Helps others to skip crap posts. And I'm pretty sure the CP staff are planning on adding a more complex filter, so we can filter out questions, for example, that have the GimmeCode tag. Though it would probably be better just to delete this particular question than to answer or modify it. On the other hand, adding tags and reasons why the question is not appropriate gives the asker the opportunity to change it to ask a more reasonable question.

A minor edit is just that. A minor change to the content of question or answer. A user may choose this option explicitly when editing an existing post or the system may automatically deem it so. Our current auto-detection implementation is triggered if the length of the original post differs from the new by 5 or fewer characters. I know this is not ideal. We'll look to improve it after we get the bigger ticket items around Quick Answers complete. See this FAQ entry[^] for some more background.
