I've had enough (or "Why XP Mode sucks")

I'm reinstalling Win7 this week, this time without XP mode. Each time I've tried setting it up, it corrupts my registry. (4 installs in 5 months) - IE 8: popups don't appear even though blocker is off. - Add/Remove components window is blank. - Update history shows 4 copies of one VISTA patch (???). When I go to remove any patch, the window is blank ("No updates are installed") I don't know how anyone else has got this to work, but I've wasted too much work time trying to work around it. It's not 100% compatible anyway. I have XP apps that won't even install on it.
I need an app that will automatically deliver a new BBBBBBBBaBB (beautiful blonde bimbo brandishing bountiful bobbing bare breasts and bodacious butt) every day. John Simmons / outlaw programmer

It works fine for me. Only issue is with roaming profiles. For some reason XP mode creates files in my profile that I have no permission to access then it complains that my profile can not be totally synchronized.

I haven't run in to those specific issues, but I ended up installing Virtual PC 2007 SP1 on my work machine instead. I would use VirtualBox, but for some reason, I haven't been able to join it to our work domain, so VPC it is for now (no license for VMWare Workstation). Reason? VPC with the VM additions runs faster than XP Mode with integration. I run a dual-monitor setup with Windows 7 on one screen and VPC on the other screen. Flynn

I'm using XP Mode only casually on multiple systems, never had serious trouble with it. Maybe you should download from an official source? :rolleyes:

Powers-that-be insist on IE. X| The only reason they left 6 for 7 was new Dells came in. Probably the only way they'll go to 8 is Windows 7.

Be advised that the current free version of VMWare player allows you to create images, making it 90% of workstation (it lakes some frills like snapshots, but it is awfully close to the full licensed Workstation product).

Us, too. We were looking at it to run one of our legacy applications. It was far easier (and less confusing for our customers) to just adjust Windows 7's security a bit to run it natively. I run VPC 2007 on my machine at home as well. :) Flynn

Hmm. I only use outlook 2007 web under chrome or FF. And also most of the time I use that under linux from the home linux desktop.

Not sure which edition IT are running but here's[^] a comparison between Chrome and IE's rendering of the same site. FF behaves identically to Chrome. It's not just the looks but the way in which they behave as well. IE is more AJAXy but makes things a lot nicer.
