I'm american, if I was for some reason to wear an american flag and be told something like this I would be more than happy to inform them exactly where they could stuff their offended sense of apparent nationalism as they have no right not to be offended by my simple presence. If they were acting like the kinds of idiots I've seen, or wearing them deliberately to provoke a response like this I could see taking action against them. But if it wasn't organized(or at least they can't prove it) and they were just going about their day, I fail to see the issue. This isn't PC, it's just plain stupid. But you know why they do it? Because of the flag waving idiots who go out of their way to cause conflicts over such things. It's a war of stupid vs stupid and the only people who win are the ones who point and laugh. You know, I woulda been mad at them wearing the flag because, They aren't supposed to![^] Somebody is cheapening our flag to make a buck. Selling one of those shirts would be a misdemeanor in DC...

Love that speech... I know it's a chick flick, but it's still good. Rules like in that link are fine for government and military ceremonies, but I don't think forced patriotism really embodies the spirit of this country. Freedom of expression should apply to the symbols of the country just as it does to everything else. I'd like to see a bunch of T-shirts made with the flag printed on them upside-down, on fire, and covered with graffiti. Why? Not in any sort of protest... Just to show that it can be done. To stretch the limits of the first amendment and show that no matter how insulting the statement, it's still protected by the Bill of Rights. THAT would be something worthy of national pride.

Oh, I have nothing against showing respect to the flag... Even though I refuse to say the pledge of allegiance because of the "under god" part, I'll still stand for it. But I still find that link somewhat offensive... My issue with it isn't that there are a list of ways you're supposed to treat the flag... My issue is that they're phrased as rules. The paragraph at the top says each state can choose which parts are enforceable, but the whole document is phrased to suggest that they should all be laws. It shouldn't be, "Follow these rules, or you'll be arrested." (I know it doesn't say that outright, but look at the general tone). It should be saying "This is how you can honor the flag." It should be about manners and etiquette, not rules and laws.

This is stupid!!!! I'm mexican, yes, yes, we (actually they, I wasn't even born) kicked the french asses May 5th when they tried to invade Mexico, but it's only a holiday for schools!!! it's not a mandatory holiday for all, here in the US it's where they made a big deal about it, I don't know who did it. And besides, I'm in the US, should I feel offended because I see american flags around all the time? NO, should I ask the company I work for to give me the american holidays and of course, the mexican holidays, just because it's very sensitive for me to celebrate the mexican revolution... of course NOT. I'm a country with different things I can't demand them to accept my ways, if all the mexican-american don't like it, sorry, but fudge them, the US has customs and ways, why the fudge they want to change it, if they don't like it, they can leave the country and go back to Mexico. what's next? The US celebrating the 4 of July and also September 16th (Mexican independence), because the mexican-american are very senstive about it? send them to Mexico. This one more reason why I support Arizona's law, if they don't like the american way, why even bother to come to the country?... illegals should be prosecuted as criminals (they are criminals) now americans can't show their pride for their country because some stupid mexican-americans (that are supposed to be AMERICANS) are very sensitive about a holiday that in Mexico don't give a shit about it

If that link is accurate, then it's not federal law... Or at least, if it is, that federal law only applies to D.C. It says that it's up to each state to choose if and how to enforce it. Hmm... Maybe I should check New York State law and see how it's dealt with here... I think it's great to study it, if it's real study,I'm all for basic research. But I wonder why do people think it is the best the way it is? Change is constant,and the Earth has been changing for 4+billion years. How do we know keeping it the same is better than letting it change? That's a lot of either blind fear of change, or hubris.
