Ella's Pink Lady - Jessica Watson[^] This 16 year old is truly inspiring. Forget the stories about her not breaking any records etc. After 210 days at sea, 6 knockdowns and 12m waves, this young lady certainly has my respect and she is a remarkable girl. She wiil make the Sydney Heads within the next half hour, and will become a National Hero to millions of kids who will realise that anyone can acheive thier dreams.

I kind of do feel sorry for the girl for not breaking the record tho, considering the preperation and the issues she had with the first attempt.... but im sure the tens of thousands of dollars Ten/One HD are paying for the exclusive will make up for any dissipointment she is having

Do you really think so ? I've sensed more of the tall poppy syndrome in most of the media stories I've seen.

The Tall-Poppy crap is a media beat-up IMHO. There are more than 10,000 people in the city to welcome her home, and countess boats on the water. The kids won't listen to what the "Olds" in the mainstream media are saying - most will be astounded by her grit and determination. Not only in Australia, but around the world. I do agree however, that she has been very well managed.

Interesting. I had never heard of the term 'tall poppy syndrome[^]' before today, although I'd certainly encountered the phenomenon. In the U.S. you see this sort of thing during the heights of media frenzies surrounding an event like this. The bottom feeders, in an effort to attract attention, play up anything negative they can find about the subject. "She wet the bed as a child!", never mentioning that she was 3 months old at the time, would be typical.
