I've just read an article about Steam for the MAC platform out of pure boredom. So conculsions(not mines): 1 - buggy (some real cool graphics bug out of the port from DX to OpenGL) 2 - really slow up to 3 times slower than on Windoze 3 - and this is my favourite: "I think that Steam is actually helping Macs suck where they never sucked before" Is it good or bad for Macs => the whole Steam thingy?

I haven't encountered any bugs, nor slow performance. I've just run Portal, though. Don't know how it performs on something more complex. It downloaded quite OK, it's running perfectly in native (1920x1200) without any frame skipping... The one thing that really sucks is that Civilization V (the reason why I got excited about Steam on Mac) is coming on the PC version only. At least for now... I hope.

Steam on the mac is a good first step though. Valve only ported the source engine, any third party games would still need to do the same. Can't wait for Civ 5:cool:

Totally! I got my grubby hands on Empire: Total War 2 days ago and still haven't had the chance to play it and in a short while I need to buy Napolean: Total War in addition to Civ V.

Yea well I just mean, how can the existence of a program for a certain platform ever be bad for that platform? If it's really that bad, don't use it then.

You should ask Uncle Steve that question :)

Yep, I gave it a shot and the performance/quality was lacking. But, valve has a pretty solid history and if they are really committed to platform I think the long-term could be pretty good. We'll see if it makes financial sense for them to tough it out.
