Is anybody else getting this? Not so long ago I would navigate to Google and type in what I am searching for, press return and off it would go. Now I navigate to Google, type in what I am searching for then move the cursor to the search text box and type in what I am searching for then press return.

Where are you typing for the first time? BTW, working fine here (FF).

If you are working on a horribly slow internet connection, just give it some time to load. Search box should get focus.

It's a fast connection, the page loads instantly but the search box doesn't get focus

Working fine for me... Of course, I'm using Chrome. If the Google homepage didn't work perfectly in Chrome, they would be the laughing stock of the tech industry.

I haven't seen the Google homepage in years. I use Firefox Smart Keywords[^] Just type "g keywords" into the address bar and it goes straight to the results. [There's equivalent in IE and Chrome, called something like search shortcuts]

I tend to use the search bar in Firefox which I've setup for google rather than navigating to the Google homepage

Maybe one of your toolbars is grabbing focus?

Google will often test new features, UI improvement(s)/ideas, etc... by temporarily making it available on the homepage, they track the analytics and it lets them know what people think, when they do this its never to everyone using Google, just a select group, region, sometimes country (they did a test just in Britian once as example) You might have got a test page and no one else saw it because its one of there tests.
