Does anyone know if it is possible to set a google default to "don't search ExpertsExchange"? It's is so slow to load and I don't want to sign up for it, but when I go looking for info it often come up and I click before I have realized it's no damn use to me. If I could just tell Google "never look there, no, I don't want results from them, no siree" that would be a bonus!

I have learnt that you can not make someone love you, all you can do is stalk them and hope they panic and give in. Apathy Error: Don't bother striking any key.

To see if the 'scroll to the bottom' solution worked for me, I Googled for something I knew would give an Expert Sexchange hit. I scrolled down and sure enough there were the solutions. Rather amusingly, I thought, the solution marked as accepted was:

I haven't found anything definitive that explains why this property won't work.

I am going to do that. Although I was a member in the past, I assume my account was disabled after 5+ years of inactivity..

Ugh... I'm right with on that one, Griff... I actually WAS a member of ExpertsExchange, way back in the day... Not a paying member, mind you. Answered enough dumb questions to qualify as an "expert" for a while... Then I got sick of it... Why? Because CodeProject is much better :)

That won't affect Google results; just stops you getting sucked in later.

Good enough, no? Built-in 404 pages, for all their failings, load quick. The only real alternative is to create a custom Google search engine, using their API, and use that as the default search engine. All manner of restrictions can be set for a custom one.

There is another trick if you DO want to use EE. Even when the results are filtered out on the main page (as linked from the search results), you can get at them on the cached copy from Google. At some point the answer was indexed! Click on the cache link under the result, instead of on the result itself. This works for me in all browsers. Cheers,

Yes. The experts exchange is a mess. Its the only site that comes in the Google search which tells you to signup to view the solution. Actually I had signed up for the experts exchange but the solutions and effective to less than ten percent. Morever there is overhead of signing up every time you open a google link.

Not for quite a few months! They got wise to that and stopped... Ah ha! That stopped working for me some time ago. Exactly when I started using Google Chrome I suspect. Open the Google search in an IE tab and the referrer works, and I can scroll down. Makes sense. I'd still like to get rid of them. I know I can use "-expertsexchange" on each query, but I also know I will forget...

There is still a trick that works. Open Googles cached version of the site->text only->scroll down and ta-daa!

If you use chrome or opera you can change the search url string so that it doesn't include experts exchange. In chrome you can't edit the default google search url but you can create a new one like "http://google.com/search?hl=en&q=%s -site:experts-exchange.com" In Opera you can edit the default google search url so just add " -site:experts-exchange.com" after "%s" I know it's not perfect because it doesn't work if you search from the google home page but I normally use the address bar

That won't keep EE out of the google results; but with careful use can block about 80-90% of the garbage placed above the answer.

Thank you very much indeed! I created a new search, called "Google with no EE" with the search URL

                                http://www.google.co.uk/search?hl=en&q=%s+-site:experts-exchange.com&aq=f&aqi=&aql=&oq=&gs\_rfai=

Set that as my default search engine, and bingo! Experts Exchange is blacklisted from my address bar searches. Very nice. Works in Chrome. Have 5 from me - I just wish it could be ten.

I want the same thing for eggheadcafe.com.

                                      Before .NET 4.0, void Universe = NULL;

See the posts immediately above yours: "Crazy coder" and my reply. It's pretty obvious how to change "expert exchange" for any other site.

I have a solution that works with firefox. I am sure there is a way to do it with chrome too but since I don't really use it I don't know. Here it is: 1) Go to google.com or google.co.uk or your favorite google site. Right click on the search text box and select 'add a keyword for this search'. 2) A pop-up form will appear to add a new bookmark. The most important thing in this form is the 'keyword' field. You can add anything you want. I would suggest either 'g' or 'goo' or 'gg' or something like that. I used 'goo'. Click save. 3) The bookmark is now added and you need to modify it. So, select Bookmarks/Organize bookmarks or just click ctrl+shift+B. 4) Locate your bookmark, click on it and click the more button. 5) You need to modify the location field. In my case it is 'http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&source=hp&q=%s&aq=f&aqi=&aql=&oq=&gs\_rfai=' and I changed it to: 'http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&source=hp&q=-site:experts-exchange.com %s&aq=f&aqi=&aql=&oq=&gs\_rfai='. So basically I added '-site:experts-exchange.com%20' before the '%s' characters, right after the 'q=' characters. 6) On the address bar type 'goo experts exchange' and voila: no experts-exchange.com in the search results! ;P Additionally you can add more keywords for google search without the change to exclude EE and allow them in your queries. However, you have to use a different keyword!
