Hello all, I'm searching for a program that would allow me to get an audio file and extract some parts of it, I want to be able to specify from second 14:32 to second 14:46 (for example). The problem with audacity is that I need to do it by selecting with the mouse and it is not precise... Any idea? PS: Searching google gives me tons of results of different programs, but I don't know if them can do this special thing or not. As always thank you in advance...

I don't know of any, but wouldn't it be relatively easy to cobble up a little utility in C# and DirectX/DirectShow (or wherever the Audio stuff is nowadays)?

A simple C# Wave editor, part 1: Background and analysis[^] might be helpful. Also you might be able to get a demo version of one of the audio editors (SoundForge?) that might be able to do what you need.

I'm not sure of what you mean... I have one file (it is a meeting that I saved several time ago) and I need to take some parts of that meeting in different files in order to be able to access fast and easily to all of them. Then what I'd like to do is to be able to select from secons XX:XX to YY:YY and cut that part of the audio file and save it into another file. I need to be precise up to the second and selecting it by the mouse is too imprecise for me... at least (I'm not a great user of audacity, second time at much) I'm not capable to do it... Thank you.

This is actually already a feature of Audacity. I'm running version 1.3 (unicode) and at the bottom there is this: audacity.png[^] Make sure the whole waveform is selected first, then use the first box to set the start, set the length radio button, then specify the interval. It will exactly change your selection like you wanted. Then just cut or split new.

It's been a few years since I used Audacity, but I recall using function keys to zoom in and out. These were a huge help in isolating high frequency 'skip' noises on a lot of audio recordings I used to convert. I would select these 'skips' using the mouse, though I'm surprised that there are not keyboard shortcuts for selecting. I'd then apply filters to the selection and effectively remove just the 'skips' from the converted audio. I have to admit that Audacity was so good, I never bothered to search out for anything else. :)
