I'm so glad that you gave that link because until reading it I had not understand those particular cartoons. Now I understand them. I don't find them at all amusing but I do understand them.

"The Author is making a joke about how sometimes things in your fridge are very old." That I think was funnier than the comic itself.

The writer of xkcd explained is clearly jealous of the xkcd "Author", because in every "explanation" he humiliates the later. For example, in an explanation about a "malamanteau", he writes: Finding humor in word-play is an excellent way to feel superior to other people, without needing to think creatively or experience actual emotions. FTW? Finding humor is experiencing the actual emotion, and to find humor is to think creatively. You could write things like "Doing X is an excellent way to feel superior, etc." - and to substitute X with anything at all. This being written by someone in the internets doesn't make it true or smart. I, for example, do often find humor in word-play, without feeling superior to anyone. To sum it up, the xkcd explained is nothing but an ill-tempered worthless commentary of xkcd. IMO.
