Gaming mouse recommendations?

I have been mighty pleased with my Razer Death Adder mouse (here[^]) and the Razer Goliathus mat. It fits well in the hand , it's very accurate and best of all it lets you turn off the stupid lights. Although with mice it's always better if your able to go and test drive a few yourself so you can find which one you find most comfortable. Most mice will perform the same but it's the one that you find most comfortable to use which will make the difference. Also the mouse mat I mentioned has a few bonuses, and I would recommend it for any laser / optical mouse; it's kind of padded which makes it comfy to rest your hand on, and it's textured so that the mouse has some extra grip on it - not to say that the mouse is hard to move across it but that when you want to stop the mouse it will just stop, it's a very fine balance.
My current favourite quote is: Punch them in the face, see what happens!

I need a new one, the wear is beginning to show (not just on its feet) and it really wasn't all that good anyway. It should be accurate and it should not "skip" a bit of sudden quick motions (this is what gets me killed most often) It does not have to be wireless, my setup here is such that the wire doesn't get annoying.
I'm using a Logitech G500 and it's great. Best mouse I've ever used.

I use a Logitech G9 on my main gaming rig, and have a G5 on my spare. Both are excellent mice, but I personally prefer the G9. It looks aesthetically odd, but its actually very comfortable to use, and is spot on. it has a 3200dpi max resolution over the G5's 2000dpi, which also works well for me.

I have been using the Razer Naga for a while now. With all of the buttons, the configurable macros and precise laser I would recommend it for anyone. It has really helped me with Everquest 2, Star Trek Online, World of Warcraft, Diablo II, and many other games.

One more for the G5. Completely awesome for more or less everything. It actually has up to 5 configurable sensitivity settings, so yeah, sniper mode :) Also quite handy with Photoshop etc when you want to do some detailed work. No matter what people say, a cord for your gaming mouse is always a good play. The G7 which I also liked while the batteries were in happy working order has a great battery eject system - swap batteries in about 2-3 seconds, if you really do want wireless. Unfortunately I think I abused the charger too much on that one so maybe not the most durable.

My personal choice: Microsoft Sidewinder[^]
I concur...the original sidewinder mouse I have has been the longest living mouse (3+ years now I think) I've ever owned since the logitech track ball I killed...I would buy another trackball, but ebay prices are crazy for an almost 15 year old track ball. My mice suffer endlessly...but at least I try to keep my desk clean. As a plus, it works great without a mouse pad. Love the sidewinder for the weightiness of it, I hate a 1 oz gaming mouse like some of the other brands, I need some weight. The cable clip on storage container for the adjustable weights acts to manage the cable very nicely, and the push button increase for dpi on the fly is awesome. Some games, or maybe windows 7, aren't playing nice with my thumb buttons though, but I'll get that figured out. This is of course, the first gen Sidewinder mouse from 2007, I have not tried the newest incarnation(s)... I tried the Razor Naga (loved the idea of having so many buttons and it worked great in wow and whatever fps I was playing), but it was too small for my hands (thumb cramp!). The Mamba or one of the others was awfully low profile so i didn't like that, the logitech gaming wireless laser ate a charge too fast so it spent more time charging and me using a backup wired mouse than I liked. Thinking the RX1000 logitech wired mouse I use at work might not be a bad mouse for gaming, just no extra buttons. It's accuracy is excellent for a cheapo...

Well, I use a Logitech G7 at home, which is the wireless version of the G5. Its as good as the G5 except for the poor battery life (you get two batteries and can put one on to charge in the supplied cradle, but they only last a day and fail at the worst time...). So as you say the wire is not a problem, I would go with the G5 (or its replacement the G500, assuming it hasn't been nerfed - as I haven't tried it). If you are on a tight budget - I use a Logitech MX510 in work (I game at lunch break if not that busy...) which is bomb proof and has lasted me for many many years (probably 6+). It is not as sensitive as the G5, but I believe the current version - the MX518 has improved and switchable sensitivity.

I use the Microsoft IntelliMouse Explorer 3.0. It has good DPI, 5 buttons, is large enough for my biggish hand and was not very expensive. I use it upon a big steelseries mousepad and 3+ months of usage has left me happy with my decision. I forget the specifications regarding G's, which are certainly overkill, and I have not met any situation that has taxed the acceleration capabilities of this mouse. I can't blame the mouse for the frequency of my respawns, in other words.

I have a Trust MI-7700R, which has 2.4Ghz (better quality) wireless plus laser tracking (with a high precision mode). It also has some media control buttons. I got it for about £20 so it's about half the price of some gaming mice, but still has most of the same capabilities.

As others said, Logitech G5 G7. It's simply awesome. Great resolution, no skips, extra battery (wireless so while one is used the other is charging), 3 cursor speed modes, side button, very comfortable. You can't miss with this mouse. I have two of them for some time now, none of them showed any problem. Edit: I disagree with what mentioned earlier about the battery, it all depends on how much you use the mouse. If you keep playing a whole day non-stop it will run out, but before that the mouse starts blinking a red light so you can choose the appropriate time to change the battery. Beleive me, wireless makes all the difference.

I've got a razor as well and I'm tempted to void its warranty to turn off the lights without having its tray craplet running all the time.

With my Razor, I only had to run the craplet long enough to turn the light off, then I uninstalled the craplet, and the light stayed off.
I wonder why they're not consistent. I have the left handed death adder; the lights turn on every single boot and stay on till I'm logged in and the craplet finishes loading. Hopefully yours is a newer model than the base version of mine...
