You have a very boring first name and yet a very interesting surname! How did that occur, spill the beans.

Sometimes the truth is NOT that interesting... When people question the spelling of my first name, especially since my last name has an 'ey' and my first name has just a 'y' yet the most common spelling is 'ey' for my first name.... I just tell folks my Mother misspelled my name on the birth certificate because the truth is she said she found it spelled that way in a book.

It's a slow night in the lounge. Chris is moaning. Somebody is reposting *cough - it's you*, and some idiot is talking about music. We've got to do something to liven it up and you are still fairly new to the lounge. We've long since discovered all the sordid secrets of the regulars.

A young lady from a place called Seaham in the north east of England went to register the birth of her child. The registrar asked her what the childs name was, and she replied "Gooey". The registrar questioned her at some length over the originality of the name, and she admitted that she'd read the name in a book and had always liked it so she wanted to call her child Gooey. Fortunately the registrar asked her to spell the name out - Guy. That's the level of stupid that some parents achieve (although to be fair, she probably hadn't slept in days by this stage, and wouldn't have been able to tell you what her name was).

Names are fascinating! For example my surname, Hughes, means "Son of Hugh". Who the hell was Hugh and what was his beef? Who knows? I've researched it and I've yet to come up with an answer to that, but I did find out that a distant relative of mine was a highway man (hung at the assizes apparently) and another was well known for ripping off the local parish.

That was my name in French class. I may not have been The Man, but I was Guy (pronounced "Gee", I think).
