Mitters, the kitty that glowed in the dark...

... is no more. Some of you probably remember my post about our cat that had cancer and was part of a clinical trial of a new radiation therapy. Prior to the radiation treatments it was discovered that she had a bad heart. So bad that the protocol of several small radiation doses was discarded - she wouldn't have survived multiple periods of anaesthesia. So they did one big radiation fraction, and it did, in fact, totally kick the shit out of the tumor. Unfortunately it also sent her crashing into acute anemia. She was recovering - red cell count going up, getting better and better... until this morning, when she went into congestive heart failure. So I had her put down an hour ago. I have to drive the body to CSU so they can take a final biopsy and set of images. In exchange, they'll cremate her for me. My sweet little friend for 13 years, is no more. So long, Mitters. :(( :(( :((

I'm sorry to hear that. Find comfort knowing that she is no longer suffering or in pain. My in-laws just put their 14yo lab down a few weeks ago. My brother-in-law and I were the only ones in the room when the drugs were administered. It happened a lot faster than I thought. I think the doctor was still administering the drugs when he passed away. I was glad I was there because he had been suffering tremendously for a while. There was an instant when the drugs were taking affect that you could see the dog he used to be, not in pain and youthful. That moment helped me find peace. We all knew he was suffering, but they didn't want to put him dowm because he would have a good day here and there. By this point, he had lost control of his bowels, wouldn't sleep without taking several pain relievers throughout the night, and could barely walk on flat ground. I'm sorry this post was a little long-winded. I wasn't trying to take anything away from you. Sometimes you get talking about something and it's tough to stop. My apologies. Anyway, again I'm sorry for your loss and hope things get better for you.

You have my sympathy. We lost one of cats unexpectedly last August, I still miss her. If Mitters had a good life before her illness, take comfort in that. :rose:

Sorry to hear that. She was obviously a very lucky kitty to find such a loving home. Take comfort in the fact that you gave her a great life and cared for her always. My thoughts are with you. Colin

:sigh: I'm sorry. It's rough losing your kitty. Yesterday, my wife and I were talking about a little blue himi boy we had, who died in '07. His mom, and than him, within a month, at 18 & 17 years old. They all know how to crawl into your heart and set up house, but some remodel the place more than others. :) :sigh:
