Mitters, the kitty that glowed in the dark...

:sigh: I'm sorry. It's rough losing your kitty. Yesterday, my wife and I were talking about a little blue himi boy we had, who died in '07. His mom, and than him, within a month, at 18 & 17 years old. They all know how to crawl into your heart and set up house, but some remodel the place more than others. :) :sigh:

Sorry to hear that. She was obviously a very lucky kitty to find such a loving home. Take comfort in the fact that you gave her a great life and cared for her always. My thoughts are with you. Colin

Oh bad news mate. That's terrible news. I hope you're OK.:rose:

Yeah... it sucks, for sure. Just walked into the house for first time with no Mitters to greet me; walked into the bedroom and habitually looked for her in her spot on the bed... Sigh. :((

I am sorry for your loss. I have never forgotten my cat Ming, every now and then I still get hit by a surprise memory.

It was a kitten, not a wife. (Lunatic, sorry for the bad humour).

I'm sorry to hear that. Find comfort knowing that she is no longer suffering or in pain. My in-laws just put their 14yo lab down a few weeks ago. My brother-in-law and I were the only ones in the room when the drugs were administered. It happened a lot faster than I thought. I think the doctor was still administering the drugs when he passed away. I was glad I was there because he had been suffering tremendously for a while. There was an instant when the drugs were taking affect that you could see the dog he used to be, not in pain and youthful. That moment helped me find peace. We all knew he was suffering, but they didn't want to put him dowm because he would have a good day here and there. By this point, he had lost control of his bowels, wouldn't sleep without taking several pain relievers throughout the night, and could barely walk on flat ground. I'm sorry this post was a little long-winded. I wasn't trying to take anything away from you. Sometimes you get talking about something and it's tough to stop. My apologies. Anyway, again I'm sorry for your loss and hope things get better for you.

There were 4 of us - me, the wife, the vet and her tech. I never wanted to have to put an animal down, you know? She was a part of our family. We tried as hard as we could to help her get better, but at every step, the question was asked - does she really have a valid path to recovery? And the answer stayed yes till this morning. We'd even gone to the extremity of having a feeding tube put in when she totally crashed into anemia. I didn't want to initially, but the concensus was that she had ~50% chance of making it if we could keep her fed. So we did that for a week and a half, and she really was getting better... But we knew her heart was failing, and tha when it did there wouldn't be any stopping it. So when the time came, there really wasn't anything else to do. We gave her every chance we could to get better, and when she couldn't, we spared her her terminal agonies. We only shortened her life by a couple of hours, max - her lungs were filling with fluid and she was beginning to really struggle to breath. We did what we needed to, and it surely sucked.

I'm so sorry to hear that. When it has been with you for that long, it's almost like losing a part of the family. RIP Mitters. :rose:

I can't wait until you die and we get another fat_boy out of the fat_boy vending machine. Actually, maybe I'll just save my money.
Actually with all due respect to Mitters, why would you not get another cat? I know FB is a crass prick with all the tact of a brick in the face but he does have a point.

I'm not really sure how to respond.... I'll give you the benefit of the doubt. But in fact, we have three others. Mitters was the first, but after her, word got out that there was a soft touch in the neighborhood. The stray kitty network has our house flagged as the place to go. ;) :)

Nothing wrong with getting another cat, but it's not like another cat is going to replace Mitters. That's like losing a child then saying "oh well, make a new one". My friends had a cat for a few months and it got lost (the sitters were watching the cat while my friends were on vacation and the cat escaped). It's been months and they have a new cat, but you can still hear the sadness in their voice when they talk about their old cat. You can't just replace a living being with another of the same type. It may help, but it won't make the pain go away. Only time will.

Thanks, I'll try not to. By the way, you have my condolences. Mitters will live on in your memories. Every living being dies, but I'm sure Mitters was lucky to have spent a life with you and yours :rose:

True but there is no denying that the companionship of a pet is a good thing. At least you are not in my position where I can't have a pet because I don't have a permanent location, we travel constantly and I could get relocated with just weeks notice so we can't take on a pet as both of us would never again willingly abandon a pet. It's just too traumatic.

Actually one of our cats was killed on the road years ago, leaving only her sister. I cried for a week so I do know how painfull it is. She wasnt even a year ol when it happened and she was the most loyal of creatures. She used to wait outside the house till you got home if you went out in the car and would go for walks with us. We got another one years later, which pissed the sister off for a few months, but you can never replace them really.
