Yet we will automatically entered next year as we are one of the few countries that actually pay for it. We should pull out. That'll fox them!

I'm glad we came last. Coming first would have been horrendous - we'd have had to host the sodding horror.

I used to watch that stuff on BBC. You had the best commentator ever. His sarcasms were a work of art! He saw the task of commentating the garbage as a punishment.

Agreed, but with all the political voting, we can never win it, so perhaps if we jumped ship it would wither on the vine and we would be rid of the three hours of intense agony, camp presenters and over cosmetic foreign bints from unpronouncable places. (Did you see the Maltese presenter, she was the size of Belgium!)

I'm sorry mate, but I'm straight. I've got better things to do with my time, such as drag out quotes from books about Idi Amin.

And my missus loves me enough not to even suggest it. Reading that paragraph sounds as though your missus has torn up your man card and hung your nuts on a necklace.

And here we were facing a huge dilemma: on one channel we had the Eurosong Contest, on another the finals of the QE Competition. Having to choose between two cultural events isn't fair. Fortunately technology came to the rescue. :)

Ah well, we did okay last year and if they hadn't fiddled around with the song so much since we first (officially) heard it when we voted on the person to sing it, then I think we would have done a little better. On another note a lot of countries seemed to take it a little to seriously what with ever'body wearing suits and whatnot, and a lot of the songs seemed incredibly similar to other well known songs... The big surprise was France though, they where actually pretty good, despite being French and all.

My current favourite quote is: Punch them in the face, see what happens!

You have plenty of good bands and musicians in UK. Why don't you try to send some of those instead of making a bad joke out of it? <edit>And I agree, why pay for something that's not taken seriously? Then again, are anyone taking it seriously, I'm certainly not!</edit>

I am a HUGE fan of the music of the British isles, but the only English musician/band in my top 15 is Sting. The others are from the Celtic lands - The Corrs, Cara Dillon (amazing voice), Runrig, Capercaillie, Celtic Woman, Dougie MacLean, The Cranberries, Enya, etc. Sting's lyrics are fantastic though - "Be yourself, no matter what they say".

And yet music is the one thing the UK has done to a phenomenal degree for decades now. In fact so good is the UK in this respect that it is one of its largest exports and is true to say has influenced music throughout the entire world. Is is a measrue of the seriousnes with which we take our music that we disdain the ESC so completely. If we were ever to take it seriously it would be a die warning indeed!

Yup, I always liked the doomsday clock ticking. "How can I save my little boy / From Oppenheimer's deadly toy". Englishman in New York, Desert Rose, A Thousand Years, Fields of Gold, If I Ever Lose my Faith in You, Shape of My Heart - they are ALL good. He's amazing. Another song I absolutely love is Billy Joel's Vienna. I only discovered it a few months ago, from an old sig of our Michael P Butler's. Simply brilliant.

Cheers, Vikram. (Got my troika of CCCs!)

Yet we will automatically entered next year as we are one of the few countries that actually pay for it. We should pull out. That'll fox them!
