    This Friday I just received the most beautifull and inteligent question/problem from one of the PE's. "My computer is working really slow. I've managed to isolate the problem. It seems that System Idle Process is consuming almost 100% of the CPU. Can you please have a look at it? Thanks" This is an aprox transaltion from romanian to english. I'm not kidding. It's one of those wanna be "power users". :)

    That is one of a long list of problems that get solved easily by switching off the computer. :)

          :laugh: :laugh: Many a time I've wished that I could find a way to keep that System Idle process from starting. I didn't buy this damned thing to sit there and do nothing! It's especially frustrating when I've asked it to do something and persists in remaining 100% idle, and if it's so idle, why does it need so many resources? :mad:

              If you don't want to switch it off, you could always tell it to go and fold something, or scan the sky for aliens, or download and install some more updates. The idle time problem is no problem at all. :)

                  So buy and study a book. :laugh: And spend some of your lottery winnings towards a second PC, I recommend a quad-core. You could then organize Idle's affinity with just one core, and use the remaining three. :)

                        I have, at last inventory, some 80+ sq ft of bookshelf occupied by programming and IT books. Having read all of them, many several times, I can attest to the fact that programming is not learned by study. Only practice and problem resolution leads to knowledge. ;P

                            Create an executable, call it "Available CPU Load", let it create one thread per virtual core that just adds numbers, set them at a priority just one above "Idle", and (tell him to) install that at boot. Instant Godness.

                              something like: somewhere in a serial for... do{ if (true == true && true!= false && (1==1 && 1!=0)) string precentage = (1+1)!=2?"100%":"100%"; } while(true.ToString().ToLower()=="true"); Will that work?:~ :)

                                  :sigh: I really planned to use this vacation time to clean up the yard and house, but instead I find myself glued to the keyboard, completing the User Control I started last week. I have all the graphics working nicely - changing shapes based on user input. Now I want to add event handlers for text boxes and an event generator to notify the host app of changes. Back to the books! Oh, my poor neglected yard... :doh:

                                      :sigh: I really planned to use this vacation time to clean up the yard and house, but instead I find myself glued to the keyboard, completing the User Control I started last week. I have all the graphics working nicely - changing shapes based on user input. Now I want to add event handlers for text boxes and an event generator to notify the host app of changes. Back to the books! Oh, my poor neglected yard... :doh:

                                          Actually, I've found a number of species that can grow here, given proper care. Ruellia, lantana, vinca major - all thrive in the heat with reasonable watering. I have 5 different types of trees growing now, and doing well, along with guavas, grapes, and assorted vegetables. Most surprisingly, I stuck a plumeria in a pot last year and the thing's blooming! Who'da thunk it? But the weeds are a constant menace, and though they die and turn brown, they don't go away - nothing seems to decay here (excepting a few barflies I see now and then).
