Someone's finally found a use for an iPad

I had this idea 10 - 15 years back, but obviously it was not feasible then. Nice to see some of my dreams/ideas of the future, become a reality. :)

Now there's someone who knows his market -- idiots who know sod all about good food, but are enraptured by the idea of eating at "in" places.

I also had this sort of idea a few years ago, but with menus in touch tabletops. Everything is automated, with only servers picking up orders at the kitchen and delivering to tables. The lack of personal attention of a proper waitron is more than made up for by eating in an "in" place.

There's a restaurant in Wardour St that does this http://www.toptable.com/en-gb/venue/?id=10285[^] Gimmicky menus are all well and good, but the foods a bit crap \ overpriced. Give me quality food from a standard menu any day!

An interesting idea. However, the main flaw is that first you get to eat your steak. Then you get your chips. Then you can move onto the mushrooms. After that, you get a chance at the tomatoes...

That's called "French service" (seriously; I'm not taking a jab at the French) (this once), and it's still common in many parts of the world -- e.g. don't be surprised if your dessert arrives first, in China. "Russian service", where everything is delivered "by plate" in courses, is relatively recent in the West, where French service actually used to be more common. You'd just order the bunch of stuff you wanted first, then order more later.

Already done with a surface table! http://blog.proud-geek.com/2007/06/01/ordering-at-a-restaurant-using-your-tables-surface/[^] And people cannot go away with the menu then! :) But this would not prevent using both, this would be an even more massively overpriced substitute for a menu.

Sensible? When did I say that this was 'sensible'? I do wonder if the restaurant in question has to pay Steve Jobs license fees if they use their 'menus' to sell apples.
