Clever Advertising

I have yahoo account, for which I check my mail every now and then. Today, when I went to check my mail, the login page[^]had nice wallpaper advertising Chevy Malibu. The image was crisp, the page loaded fast and nice idea for ad. On this one, Yahoo has done better job than Google.

I disagree. A nicer job for advertisers perhaps, but end users ? I don't even notice Google mail ads to report on them.

Well, it is a free service, as such, I don't mind if an ad is thrown in my face as long as it is not in my way and it does not force me to do something out of my way, I take it. It is a small price for free service. I use mainly gmail and their keyword ad is put nicely on the side, but I have seen many times irrelevant attention grabbing ad on that page. If I spend One second to look at the ad then dismiss it, well, I feel it is fair price to pay for free service.

I have adblock too, but it is pushed as background image with a link to yahoo ad services. It seems my AdBlock missed it.

That is fine on the login page however once you login and get popups for a 1/2 dozen fictitious women want to add you to their chat to self promote the chat feature that is not cool.

I think I would have expounded a bit more on the type of suckage and its possible origin, as well as a possible (and probably violent) solution to the suckage, but you'll eventually get the hang of it. :)
