The Dell 30" will get my tail kicked by the wife. Although..... Interesting that the Asus keeps popping up, I'll have to look at them closer. The idea about Costco is very good. Thanks

Yeah... that is why I settled for a HannsG 27" at home. But the dual 30" at work still rock! I should add dual 24" wings on the side though... just to keep my image as a spoiled programmer up to par....

Center bezels suck. If you can't afford 3x30's and a desk big enough to fit them a pair of 20" 1200x1600's is a better option; especially since it'll let you keep most apps maximized even if they're not the sort that plays well on an superwide screen.

My Soyo 24" (1920x1200) has passed into the scrap heap. Apparently about 2 years after Soyo. Sucker is still under warranty, too. So, it's time to replace it. For you real code monkeys out there, what have you bought lately that you are very happy with? I'm trying to avoid analysis paralysis ;)

I just have a 19" and a fast alt+tab. I think Asus makes a monster monitor and Asus makes some good hardware so ...

well, since I run in dual view mode, it is 1+1, almost nothing is spanned across the monitors. I do debugging on one screen and live-runs on the other. One reason I would like the wings is to bring in other systems spanning 3 computers (dual 30 primary, and 1 each for secondary systems) and then I can play data on one computer, run network monitoring on another and still debug and run on the primary. :)

Sure would be, but think i can live without that at home! Although planning on building another machine this year so might have to make it a 30" also.

If I could come up with a use for it and won the lottery... For what I'm doing at home I think I'm well into diminishing returns. While I game and eyefinity is bumping up the value of multiple monitors in gaming; most of what I do is turn based strategy so there's not much to gain there, and outside of gaming I don't use the 3rd screen that much at all.

I haven't read the responses yet but my guess is the consensus would be that essentially you need enough monitors that you can surround yourself in a complete bubble of monitors and block out all reality entirely. Strictly for the efficiency of course. ;)

I think my limit would be 3. 2 is sufficient. then again, if there were completely around me, like cubicle walls, then I might get more work done (as the hammering resumes in the background...)

My dad just got an Asus 24-inch for Father's Day. I don't know what he spent or what features it has, but I think his wife got it at TigerDirect.

I use a 24" Lenovo Thinkvision L2440x at work and a 22" Samsung Pebble 2232BW at home, both are surprisingly good, When using the Samsung I miss the extra real estate of a 24" monitor, the lenovo is excellent all round, I would however expect it not to be good for game play IMHO 5ms response is a bit low for good gaming or video.

Why not get two monitors? Given the current prices of two boxtops and shipping? I've been using two monitors, one in portrait orientation and the other in landscape. It has been wonderful and I've been trying to get the company to upgrade all my minions to the same configuration. I love being able to view code and PDFs in the portrait monitor and then the properties, immediate window, etc on the landscape monitor.

Oh, this is #2. I have a Dell XPS1530 with a WUXGA display. :) What I've learned so far is that 1920 x 1080 is the most popular format, so if I want 1900 x 1200, the prices go up. I'm not sure yet if the 120 pixels missing will annoy me or not.... if they do, I think I'll just give to the the wife and buy another.
