I have to say it is fascinating to watch how two people can read the same articles and draw completely different conclusions from them. Wash, rinse, repeat. Since these posts are so predictable, why not post something that isn't so worn out for actual fresh conversation or debate?

And if their computer did get infected, internet service providers like Telstra and Optus could cut off their connection until the problem was resolved. This is excellent. It's really naive from you (CSS) and the gov't of Australia to think they can control that... or that they will be able to do it What happens to the persons that don't use Windows? what about linux? mac? what about those other 100 devices that connect to your home network, I can name a few in my house, Zune, Blackberry, Xbox, PS3, Wii, Time Capsule (from Apple) for my backups... what are they going to do about them? force me to buy a firewall that sits between them and the internet? And also, I think that the gov't will have to come up with their own 100% flawless OS, all OS receive at least once a month updates related to security, and I don't think Microsoft, nor Apple nor Linux will want to sell their OS there because they're going to become target of millions of dollars in legal suits, the same with browsers, so how are they expecting to solve all these problems before even proposing it to become a law? How are you going to explain a person that has no knowledge about advanced stuff? that always rely on his son/nephew/niece/son in law/etc etc to install or configure things? how is the gov't going to be able to track all the devices and check if they have what they want? do you think people will let the gov't install an agent to keep track if their software/hardware inventory? what will happen with the 10,000 visitors Australia has every day/week/month/year?? are they going to force them too? Again, posting something that needs way more information and research, stop being so stupid and ask yourself questions if something is feasible or not, stop reading those sites that just blind you, get out of your basement and start getting a life, a girlfriend, friends!!! educate yourself, learn to think for yourself, don't let others do it for you, the day you accomplish all those task you will be a better person and not the obnoxious one you are right now, trust me, everything you post here, we like to debate it because makes us laugh on how you rant and never come up with a good answer and at the end decide just to ignore the debate and start something new with the same results, GET A LIFE, GET A REAL JOB!!!!

True, but what are the chances of this one happening? I mean, do the ISPs even have a way of determining if their users are running A/V software? Maybe they can monitor ports to catch Norton phoning home, or Mcafee, but what about the open-source ones? And who's to say which A/V software is "good enough"? And what about the Unix/Linux users? The Mac users? It's just nice idea (Encourage people to protect themselves), taken way too far (Making it a requirement), that fails completely when it comes to feasibility and execution... So I don't see it happening.

If the software is state-run, and the software detects the virus, then wouldn't the software just CLEAN the virus instead of shutting off your Internet? And if the ISP detects the virus, wouldn't they just contact the government organization that maintains the state-run software, and tell them to update it, instead of cutting you off? I mean, how are they going to update your state-run software if you've been kicked offline? The two ideas are pretty much contradictory, so of course you just assume both are true. Seriously, why don't you try thinking these things through once in a while? You might learn something.
