Ah, so you think it inconceivable.

No, I am not one of the "little people". I'm here educating the "little people" or as I like to call them "puny peons".

So you don't think its all that bad if the government forces you to install state-approved software on your computers?
I didn't say that. The point is the question is irrelevant becaues at this point it's nothing more than a recomendation in a report. All sorts of weird ideas get put forward, this one has just been presented with all the key words that get you excited.
And when it does happen, you will most certainly whistle and skip down the sidewalk like a little school girl.

They will have to run state-approved software, it will signal the ISP and government. If a virus is detected, the software will inform the ISP and your internet will be shut off until the issue is resolved. Special permits and licenses can be granted to certain users (for a price of course) who run unsupported OS. It really isn't' that hard to fathom Ian.

If the software is state-run, and the software detects the virus, then wouldn't the software just CLEAN the virus instead of shutting off your Internet? And if the ISP detects the virus, wouldn't they just contact the government organization that maintains the state-run software, and tell them to update it, instead of cutting you off? I mean, how are they going to update your state-run software if you've been kicked offline? The two ideas are pretty much contradictory, so of course you just assume both are true. Seriously, why don't you try thinking these things through once in a while? You might learn something.

Author of the Guardians Saga (Sci-Fi/Fantasy novels)The government will figure it out and develop a ten-thousand page book of regulatory protocol. The paperwork involved in setting up a personal internet connection will be tremendous.

As you are the only person on this forum whose employment ranks them as a "puny peon", you most certainly are one of the "little people".

I have to say it is fascinating to watch how two people can read the same articles and draw completely different conclusions from them. Everything he's going to read is going to spell government conspiracy and everyone else who reads his links is going to call it bunk or say it doesn't say that, whatever that may be. Wash, rinse, repeat. Since these posts are so predictable, why not post something that isn't so worn out for actual fresh conversation or debate?

Because this is what this forum has been reduced to. Two or three wack jobs posting their 'facts' and te rest having a laugh

You see, if you knew anything of the world outside of a 2 block radius from your hovel you would know that Australia doesnt have sidewalks.

I have to dissagree, but I think if he knuckles down, works hard, does as he is told and gives up on the wild theories then in a while he may make it up to the dizzy hights of being a peon (not sure if he will ever get as high as puny peon and "little people" is way out of his league)

I wouldn't mind visiting Australia, but I wouldn't want to live there. I just wouldn't feel safe, what with their repressive gun laws and all. I could carry CGs weapon of choice, but it's just a matter of time before it is outlawed as well. When pitchforks are outlawed, only outlaws will have pitchforks!

You'd be suprised how many Aussies say: "I wouldn't mind visiting the US, but I wouldn't want to live there. I wouldn't feel safe being surrounded by people with guns" The difference in perspective amuses me. I guess we all just get comfortable with whatever we're used to, hey :)

Most of the voters here seem to agree with you. I think we'll be getting a change of government next election, although to be honest, the opposition are just as useless as the current govt... :(

If you actually read up on the proposal (rather than just the news.com.au summary or the alex jones propaganda), all they're really going to be able to do is make it legal for an ISP to kill a client's connection if they detect that the client's machine has become an open spam relay or has joined a botnet. The Australian government is far too incompetent for anything more complicated to actually work. Plus, it's looking like they're going to get kicked out at the next election anyway, so the chances of this ever becoming law are pretty close to zero.

Yeah, I was poking at CG a little.

I wouldn't be surprised, I have been round-and-round with CG on the subject of private gun ownership in the past. Needless to say, we didn't see it the same way. :)
