Also, you can use the GV number as a portal to place free domestic long distance calls from your home phone (US only).

Google Voice sucks immensely. The transcription is atrocious they can't can't even simple phrases correct. The speech recognition on my Droid phone is better than the voice mail transcripts. Why inflict such punishment on the general population. As I was typing this I got a voice message. "Hi Mark this is Jay" was translated as "My month of June, the doggy" and "Thank you and have a great day" was translated as "Thank you know, big day". How the hell can this application even be remotely useful? :wtf: :wtf:

It is a voice-mail service that A) lets you playback voicemails on your computer B) sends you an email transcript of the voicemail (or attempts to transcribe it), and C) offers a free phone-number that you can link to multiple phones so that one number can ring all your phone and you can answer any of them to pick up the call.

Vonage has a very good transcription service. More than 95% accuracy in my experience.

They probably should, but they are constantly looking for donation of voicemails. If you find something that doesn't work, and it isn't private, you donate the voicemail and then they get better.

It depends a lot on the person leaving the voicemail. At worst, they're complete gibberish. At best, they save me from having to listen to my voicemail when I'm busy with something else. 'Cause if there's one thing I hate worse than someone sending me SMS messages, it's someone leaving me voicemail.

I guess it works for me, must be written for a New Mexican accent (I actually thought I had no accent, but someone from New Orleans with a beeeautiful New Orleans accent told me I have a New Mexican accent so I must have one). It only got one sentence wrong in my test message to myself. " Yes. Yeah, Hello chap. I just wanted to test the voicemail system and sounds like I need to re-record this. Anyway, thank you very much. Bye. " I opened with "well hello Jeff"

I debated hard and long about getting a Roswell phone number that ended in 4A51 (for area 51)....

Hmmm, if it is open to everybody (in the US) then why does my account still say I have 3 invites left? In any case, it's not like google voice invites were hard to get. I got mine for like $2 from ebay, anybody who wanted it could have done the same already.

you could sort them into their own voice mail group and have a "special" message for them.
