You just don't get it. You think that a severe depression means the end of the world? I said if you have any savings after investing in supplies, then you want to invest in gold and silver because once things recover, you will have your savings plus some. Gold and silver is a hedge against inflation. Even in the worse of situations such as that of Zymbabwe's hyperinflation, they had to trade in gold if they wanted anything. People mined gold dust from the rivers, and that was the only acceptable currency for food, fuel, tools, and other supplies. Got it?

No I think its you that just doesnt get it, yes gold and silver may be desirable during the recovery phase, however its like monopoly, if you start a game with one player with all the cash and one with all the property you will find the property wins eery time, so it is with a colapse, all your gold is only useful if someone will sell you goods for it, if the colapse is bad enough for the dollar to be worthless it may just as likely mean that gold/silver is also worthless and goods worth trading will be the defacto currency, if you have those then you will be able to amasss the gold from overcharging morons like you who have a stack of gold and no food

Are you still doing drugs? Of course there will be regular houses that conform to the zero carbon standards - they are already in existence. Strangely, many look very similar to traditional houses, because that is what the market demands. There are buyers who like a HiTec look, but most don't. Developers have been building city centre "super compact apartment cubes" for wannabe yuppies from before the term yuppie was coined, and well before anyone cared about carbon footprints. Again, market forces.

There was some discussion here of Minimum Wage. No, it was gold versus fiat currency (yet again :rolleyes:). Captain SeeVee stated that $1 dollar in gold coinage was the equivalent of $25 now. It was pointed out to him that 20c per hour would be $5 per hour now. To which he replied "I'd die to make that much money right now."[^]. Thus, he actually earns less than $5 per hour. It has inherent value only because we agree it has. The limited supply makes it different to money, I agree. But it is just as able to drop in value as money is, because it's value is just as tenuous and just as reliant on the person you want to give it to, agreeing with you that it has a value that it has for no other reason than happening to be gold. It's not the same as, say, a car, which has a value based on what it does. Gold doesn't do anything.
