Do we really need offsides?
-
I was thinking (dangerous, I know). Why don't we just get rid of the offsides rule (for soccer and hockey). I think it would make the games more interesting. I play on an indoor soccer league and we don't have an offsides rule, and its way more fun in terms of strategy and play. Besides, the refs can't call it right half the time anyway.

I would agree in soccer. I think Hockey is much better.

It is necessary in casual soccer when you play with someone who thinks trolling is cool. Camping out in front of the goalie, intentionally blocking his site, standing in the way etc.

Maybe the goalie should also be given some leniency to rough up players in the box. Kind of like boxing and soccer. They already have the gloves. :) Oh wait, isn't that rugby?

The offside rule actually encourages the defence to move up the pitch making a more interesting game. Without it you tend to get a fairly packed goal area and the game descends into pinball.

That will make the game real boring. Every team will have a couple of players always around opposition's goal and to tackle them, opposition will place there few players. Eventually, there will be one group at one post and another group at other post. Rest of the pitch would be empty.
