Even if we get to the next world cup, I will claim a different origin and pretend not to notice that it is happening. On other news, my head hurts, my mouth is dry and I am looking forward to seeing Toy Story 3 and Shrek 4. (It is ok, I have a 7 year old nephew that I am hijacking so that I don't look like a sad mid 40's chap going to watch cartoons!)

------------------------------------ I will never again mention that I was the poster of the One Millionth Lounge Post, nor that it was complete drivel. Dalek Dave

One of the main problems is that, via the press and media generally, the country is hyped up to think that a side who are between the top 10 and top 20 in the world can punch above their weight on demand. The players do not possess the skills and tactical accumen to achieve this without being carried by foreign imports as they are in the Premier League. So left on their own they get found out and can't adapt to a managerial style that doesn't papmer to their every whim. It's like having a srict but knowledgable teacher at school, you might not like it at first but he'll get you through and it's only afterwards that you realise how good he was. Capello's forgotten more about how to manage than the press ever knew in the first place. Grrrrrrrrrrrrrr

The problems are more than superficial with the England Team; blaming the manager or the players is only part of the story. The manager is a good manager; the players are good players but bringing them together in the way that we do after having played a very long season is ridiculous. They are knackered by the time they get anywhere and half of them don't look like they have the energy to walk a dog never mind chase after players from other leagues that train together for far longer and have shorter seasons. We expect far too much, physically form the players. How much they get paid is irrelevant: that's just the business side of the equation. Case in point was the 2 chaps that played that amazing game at Wimbledon the other day. Both very fit professionals. But the winner had to play the next day and went out easily because he was exhausted. You can't expect players, at any level, to perform at their peak when, plainly, they are well past that peak. In the meantime, congratulations tot he Germans: worthy winners regardless of the lost goal they were far better, fitter, faster and more4 creative. In a nutshell we were crap and we need to start again: perhaps by reducing the premier league and shortening the season.

Good Call. Reduce by two the number of premiership teams, and that can give a natural midseason break around the end of Jan, allowing for recuperation of injured players, and an easing of the regime to rebuild the team and work on specific weak areas. I think we are the only major league without a break.

Indeed and I think that, more than anything else, hurts us. Get rid of Arsenal and Chelsea and all will be well. :-)

You know that's not true. :P In 4 years time the papers will have all talked you into the fact that actually it's this time we are going to win it and everything is going to be fine. England will start of average and you will start to think maybe not. They will then play a couple of good games and just as you're starting to think the hype was perhaps well placed. They will crash and burn out of the tournament... but at least then it will only be a 4 year wait until the next :D
