the discussion of the windows app store
I'm not sure I like the app store thing. Just look at Android's store. Google can add/remove software whenever it wants on any device that runs android. That means they can watch what you're doing, and intercept data. Do you really trust Microsoft not to abuse this kind of power?

There still needs to be a way to manually download .exe/zip/.msi files etc for us techy/paranoid guys and for installs of complex software like virus checkers, web servers, etc. But for end users installing a messenger app, or a photo editing app installing it via an appstore is a a far better solution. The Linux repository system is fantastic, it makes finding and installing anything so simple.

Android allows you to install stuff that's not from the market. You just download the relevant .apk, plug your phone into your PC and away you go.

And that is why Android I like, and iPhone I don't.

Yeah. I tried VC2012, and, geeez, it really sucks. They even did not get the UI fixed, and you need to run the face recognition every time you run a build.

They've fixed most of the problems for the 2016, but not all of them.

Very interesting, like the idea of a camera with facial recognition to log you in. Windows 8 Leaked[^]

I have one on my Dell Inspiron on Windows 7.

I thought the only potential 'game changer' in that article was the discussion of the windows app store. A serious app store, with validation, certification, purchase pipeline, etc could change the way end users think about software. I know a whole lot of people who don't really understand the concept of downloading and installing something, let alone paying for it. Making the PC more like an end user appliance could introduce a whole new class of applications and an interesting new revenue model.

I've been using Steam for games for a while (for my son, honest), and it seems to have these features. I particularly like the convenience of having perpetual rights to re-download app's should anything go wrong, or my PC be reinstalled or upgraded. I'd definitely appreciate an equivalent for other types of app.

Speak like Yoda you do. Intentional, it was?

Yeah, it would be nice to have a pipeline to deliver inexpensive mass market apps for the consumer market without dealing with the busienss, just write it, pump it up and let them do all the work. Could change the face of shareware out there..
