Ohh dear. Mine has died only once so far, and they repaired it nice and quickly also free of charge. Mind you, I haven't been using it as much as I used to.

I would like to thank all you Xbox owners that purchased the Resurgence Pack add-on for Call of Duty:Modern Warfare 2, thus finding any bugs in the new maps so that us PS3 owners can enjoy a better gaming xxperience.

It's PL/I[^], from one of the 'insecure mama's boys'. I wrote a 3D CAD package as an independent study project in college using PL/I-80 on a CP/M system. The lab had four machines, each of which cost over $10,000. Resolution was 256x192, 256 colors, significantly lower than most common cell phones nowadays. It was cool.

Not me, I refuse to pay for that overpriced DLC (1200MS for 5 maps, 2 of which I already had in COD4 is absurd) for what is an incredibly buggy game in the first place. COD4 was a much better game.

Also, every time I turn on the bugger it has yet another damn software update that it forces me to apply before playing anything, and it always takes an eternity to download and install and usually requires a couple of reboots. Xbox updates are much fewer and take less than a minute.

delete this;I designed a programming language then wrote the compiler and runtime in SPL (a PL/I subset) on the PRIMOS operating system for Prime computers. I had no experience in SPL (or PL/I) but we had a source code licence for PRIMOS so I printed out some of the operating system SPL code and with the help of a book about converting FORTRAN to PL/I (who knew such a book existed) I taught myself SPL and wrote the compile/runtime - the company I worked for shifted much of their production work over to use my language - then I left - let's just say they struggled to find another SPL programmer.

It takes a long time to download for me too. A better option is to download the update from their website, place it on a USB stick and tell the PS3 to update it from there.

Well that's the thing. There are exclusives on Xbox I have and are massive deal-breakers for me, such as Halo series, but there aren't many. It more so comes down to what my friends have. About 10 or so people I went to uni with who I regularly play Xbox Live with because we all have Xboxs, only one of those guys has a PS3 and he doesn't use it either. I guess you can say the PS3 is also my DVD player as well as blu-ray because the Xbox is so loud :) But back to exclusives that aren't on Steam, the Halo series is half the value of the Xbox for me. I don't know of an equivalent for PS3, I quite enjoy the resistance single player story arc, but it doesn't grab me in the same way as the Halo franchise. Maybe you could recommend me something, but multiplayer is a big value adder for me, and as I say, I've got no-one to play PS3 MP with :) On the subject of YLOD, this[^] It's not a problem on the scale of RRoD but I'd heard a lot about it before I had a PS3. On the subject of RRoD, sure it's a massive cockup, but MS handle it amazingly. It's a 3 year warranty and repair is free, extremely fast, plus they chuck in a free month of XBL for the trouble. System updates I guess is a YMMV situation. My home broadband speed isn't amazing, but I get the impression that with the PS3 updates it's a full firmware image download as oppose to the update package. My upgrade to 3.40 last night took 45 minutes. The Xbox updates seem to be as fast as it can paint the progress bar.

mm, I did have an Xbox myself and I loved 1 and 2. My mate got a 360 and I went around the day he got 3 and we co-oped on it on Legendary and beat it in one night without dying. I was so disappointed. From such a strong beginning it just ended...weak. I agree though that it's a title thing. XBox has always been the strongest console when it came to FPS's and were it not for the fact that I now have a decent quad core, I might still have been dithering because of that. I always liked JRPGs, SRPGs and Metal Gear. I am a little sad that Dead or Alive went xbox exclusive but the series really peaked with 2 and since then it's gone downhill. I have quite a few friends from my DS group who have 360s but all of them bar one don't recommend it (and the bar one gets hit by everyone when he tries to start a fanboy-level argument on it) because they've all RROD'd. Of the other half who have PS3s...no issue so far. I'll check the ylod link at home though. It's the first I've actually heard of it. Socially, I suspect that the 360 is at present the leader. Wii online interaction tends to be overly complex and PSN does have its issues in terms of the fact that it still doesn't seem to be overly invested in. That being said, Home is fun and I have a buddy whose company has made a few spaces in it. It probably is a YMMV to be sure. You're probably right in it being a full on image rather than a patch. Ah the days when you consider doign video game journalism before remembering how little your friends in taht field get paid.

In about two years mine never died. Ended up selling it to a pawn shop though. :-O Hey, it was for beer and boerewors on National Braai day. :beer:

Same goes for the Episodes of Liberty City packages. :) I love my PS3. Original model 60 gb, upgraded to 250 gb hdd, full PS2 backwards compatibility. Bought it new in 2007, no extended warranty, and still running strong after 3 1/2 years. I never really got into the FPS genre. I have a few (Resistance 1 and 2, Bioshock, Valve's Orange Box), but they just seem awfully short for the amount of money. $60 for an average of 8 - 10 hours. Resistance 2 seemed especially short. So, I usually wait until they go on deep sale before I grab the few I want. I know the value is in online play, but I never really got into the deathmatch scene. Co-op is more my forte, so I plan to mess around with Resistance 2's online mode. :) Disgaea 3, on the other hand... $50 and over 100 hours invested. Well worth the money. Same with Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion. One character isn't through with the expansions yet, and I've clocked over 120 hours total. I have no life... :-\ Flynn
