My Wife's father hasn't been well lately and the Doctor was rather worried about smoking relate illnesses. Today he went to Chelsea & Westminster for a day of tests. Every orifice had the required tube stuck in and wiggled around. All parts that can be x-rayed, CAT'ed or ultrasounded have been. They found a lump. In the throat. A large lump. A biopsy has been taken but the consultant is convinced it's C... Now Mrs Wife is having to hold herself together for him and the girls. I'm having to Be Strong for them... It sucks. :sigh:

My thoughts are with you, and him, however I did manage a small giggle at the line "Every orifice had the required tube stuck in and wiggled around" Best of luck.

I can't say anything against the C&W, they were very thorough. The worst part is that the symptoms started last summer and he went to see his GP while we were in Hungary. "Oh, you're just getting old, take some vitimins" was the Quack's prognosis. This time "blood test - that's wrong - nother blood test - right see the specialist - consultation - all forms of -scopy - intitial diagnosis" all within two weeks. Aren't you glad the NHS is so shyte.

One Grandfather died in his 90's - Smoked his whole life. My other Grandfather still smokes 100 a day, has been smoking since he was 7, eats a fried breakfast every day, and drinks like the good Irishman he is. Still with us and nearly 90. He says that if Hitler couldn't kill him, nothing will. Not saying cigarettes aren't bad, but it is genetic disposition.

You got that right. He is the type that will never admit when anything is wrong or ask for help in personal matters like this... we are lucky in that the doctors caught it fairly early, but it took them almost three months to get us his biopsy results. I hate the callousness of some doctors.

A few years ago my mother was found to have skin cancer, within a week they started removing the melanomas. As part of her treatment, she had full scans for anything else and found breast cancer resulting in her booby being loped off. She just [two weeks ago] had another all-clear meaning no more check ups for about 6 months. When she's gone 2 years of clean 6 month checks, she moves up to yearly checks. Hopefully she'll have lots of those.

My sympathies are with you and the better half. May I recommend that if things feel like they are getting too much and you are having problems being strong that you get in the car, go and find somewhere to park up where you can be in private and then have as much of a scream, shout and swear as you can without losing your voice - take it from one who knows, this does work. Get the kids out of the way as regularly as possible so that Mrs V can have a cry in privacy knowing that you will be there for her later on. More importantly, until the results come in the consultant is only surmising. Let's hope that he's well off his game.

It did (more or less) parts wise it's £50 to replace the front bumper, rear fog-light lens and new front number plate. Basically a Beemer in front hit the brakes really hard - I slowed enough to avoid a collision then got walloped up the backside by a Focus. The beemer and myself drove away (admittedly I drove off initially with the ford still attached). The tow bar came down inside the engine bay of the Ford (which is a write-off) and "luckily" I had a Hi-Lift jack and tools in the back so between myself and the police officers we were able to get the Ford detached from the Landy (and a newly acquired one at that). There's no obvious damage to the back of the 110 but there's a little at the front from the Beemer. Ford driver admitted liability so at least mine will get sorted out free of charge (might as well save the £50 and have the rear-end checked over more thoroughly) - hopefully the insurers will be able to get the Beemer fixed on from the Ford as well rather than mine... More an annoyance than anything else...

Let's hope that he's well off his game.

and take careful note of the 'in private' bit. I have personal experience of scaring a jogger half to death, as he approached my car from behind to find me doing a reasonably good X-rated Basil Fawltey !

It sucks. :sigh:

A friend posted these links on his facebook page recently. I haven't had the chance to watch any of them yet, except for looking at the titles. Hopefully it contains something helpful. Apologies if it's nonsense.
