Hi I have some avi files( video capture)of my daughter's various activites( from walking to higly improvised and never-heard-before rhymes :-D ). These need to be sent back to my parents who are living far far away( with limited/no knowledge of email. etc). So I decided to convert it into a DVD, so that they just have to insert it into the DVD player and watch their grandaughter growing up. So any recomendation, for coverting video files it into DVD based on from personal experience? It does not have to be freeware. I know google is out there, just needed advice from CP. A really nice-to-have feature would be the option of coverting the video files into different format :) Thanks in advance, just for spending some time to read my post.

I use WinAVI Video Converter[^] which uses your existing DVD burning software and converts most things pretty well (I use it to go the other way, DVD to AVI for my media player / NAS so I don't have to get up and find the damn disks). After a trial period, it's not free, but I found most of the free ones a PITA.

Have you thought of 'Windows DVD Maker' or 'Windows Movie Maker'? You quite possibly already have these programs, depending on which version of Windows you are running. They should both be on the installation media for higher versions of Vista and Wevenjs Home Premium and higher. Success might well depend on the internal codec of your AVI files.

Well, I do a fair bit of video editing in the Adobe Suite, but when my 8 and 6 year olds make movies they just use Windows Live Movie Maker. I've tried it in the past and if all you're looking for is to cut videos to DVD, this works great. It's free, dead simple and my kids cut DVDs (and post to YouTube) all the time (YouTube, I have to approve, though). Now, if anyone can help me find a device that can digitize D8 tapes, I have the first four years of my kids on media I can no longer playback (camera died, can't find replacement).

I'd be well surprised if a short period of ebay searches won't give you a replacement PDQ. //L

I'm currently using ConvertXtoDvd, but there are lots of tools to do the same thing.

I recently used ConvertXtoDVD[^] and I thought it worked excellently. I haven't used the other ones that everyone else is suggesting so I can't compare...
