We don't want to blow big bucks on Business Objects Server. Nor do I want to administrate it. I've thought about rePortal (and am trying to convince the boss to try it), and had bad luck testing a solution from Crystal Desk called report scheduler pro. It just would not behave although it looked promising initially. Our primary goal is getting the solution to run a report and then email it. Ideally with the software running as a service rather than requiring a workstation to be logged in. Anyone here had any good experience with any such software?

I wrote my own web-based (i.e. it scheduled reports and published them rather than emailing) (10 years ago or so) but ended up using Crystal Enterprise as they wanted a per-user license for our web-based reporting (ludicrous of course) and ended up doing a deal getting Enterprise. Most solutions out there were very expensive for what they gave you - but it was always the crystal licensing that was the stopping point. I assume it's changed these days...

We are using Logicity[^] a free product that can be used to automate reports by scheduling them to run at regular intervals. Note that in order to do this, Logicity integrates with Windows Task Scheduler.

Thank you very much. I'll have a look. I know the boss will like the word 'free'.
