Windows 7 hot selling - 10 per second?

Okay, so the article says they sell ten per second, but from what I can figure, the iPad is selling out at two per second. So, if you just look at Dell and google "how many computers does Dell sell in a year", you get this[^] answer, or 65,000 / yr. I was going to guess 50,000. There's 31,536,000 seconds in a year, so that's one computer every 630 seconds. Now add in other guys...let's see... this list[^] seems a bit out of date, so I'll just add Acer, Asus, HP, Gateway, Lenovo, Sony, that's six, let's say there's at least another four I can't think of, so that's 10, so if they have roughly the same sales, that's brings us to about one computer every 63 seconds. So we still need another factor of 6 to get us to 10 per second (or basically, 60 vendors, not 10). That seems quite a lot. Does this number include upgrades? Marc

You also have to count the windows phones being sold, as well as netbooks.

How many are sold to end-users? Not just to computer manufacturers? I have at least two Win7 licenes, but I didn't buy any.

That's because you're a shoplifter ;P I suspect that corporate licensing is playing a part in this. Win 7 is seeing a much greater commercial takeup than Vista did, so all those commercial licenses add up quickly.

I think 175M licenses is a nice, clear victory. 2 iPads per month: do they mean "divide total sales, including those pre-ordered, by the time the device has actually been in the store"? or do they mean "in the last month"? 2/sec is nothing to sneeze at, but I have a feeling the apple reality distortion field is buckling. Android tablets, win7, and WebOS tablets will start pouring out the gates with offerings way cheaper, and way more powerful (but never as slick), so Apple will have a market, but it will continue to be the high-end niche.

Throw in all the volume licences, all the smaller computer shops (though they don't seem to be so popular in the US), educational programs, international resellers, yadda yadda.
