It may be just me, but...
-
...it seems the temperature has changed in the Lounge over the last few months. Looking back, there was more of a spirit of leniency towards others than I find today. A couple of people in here in particular seems to be target of what I as politically correct as I possibly can will refer to as mob mentality. I seem to remember a time when people were permitted to post stuff that didn't necessarily entertain everyone without having their entire persona being scrutinised. Whereas I don't find all of their posts funny, or amusing, or entertaining, or whatever, I am willing to bear over with that waiting for the one that might just be. Certainly a lot of the self-proclaimed Guardians of the Lounge have a lot of utter drivel on their posting history as well, so why so hard on the "new" guys? Just my two cents. Feel free to throw you one-votes at the bottom-right corner of this post. //L

Rubbish and Drivel are all part of it. And the odd bad joke we can groan at, but there are some who have posted Nothing but rubbish, and despite fair attention, have continued. They invite that upon themselves.

Dave, let me first state clearly that I really appreciate what you bring to the table in the Lounge. I really mean that. But until those involuntary CCC's you with invariable frequency post to the Lounge around two o'clock in the morning every Saturday (and occationally other days) cease, I cannot help but feel a little like you're throwing rocks in a glass house with that statement. Honestly. //L

I have been reducing them of late :) But the gibberish sometimes is too much to handle.

The Digital Worm is no more a member of CodeProject, hope we all will be better of without me on CP. Somehow I didn't get fit with CP community on lounge, but believe me nothing was intentional from my end. My membership might be a month old but CP is a great source of information for me from almost 5yrs now, I'll keep looking for all technical help over here and will enjoy you guys discussion on lounge, but I think it will be better for all if I keep my fingers off the CP message bord. Take care and have a good time CPins.

Sadly sometimes it's like the Gong Show when you have to get the hook out.

I have the image of the hook entering from stage left ready to yank off the guilty party :)

Now that you have (mostly :) ) stopped posting jokes, you are gaining more supporters. Don't give up now that you are gaining ground.

I agree, it is just a question of time and practice, soon he will be a welcome member. Pompeyboy has only been here a few months and already is accepted as a 'Good Poster'. (Although the Picture is truly embarrassing!)

Thanks Hanry, those words worth a lot for me, but now I'll always fear of posting almost anything, at least on lounge as I don't know out of which part of my post "bashing content" can be extracted by seniors and I don't really want to engage in debates and waste time.

There is no reason for you to leave: nobody gets this right form day one and I've posted as much crap as the next man so you just have to persevere and you'll be fine.

The secret is if someone says something or expresses and opinion, agree or disagree, crack wise on it, offer an alternate view. All these are fine, but do not post old gags unless they are relevent unitl you see the mood of the lounge. Sometimes an old bad gag works, you must learn to pitch to the audience. Ask weird questions, or let us know of a good recipe, these memes appear quite often. You will 'get it' in time.

Adopt guerilla tactics. Hit and run. If you find something in real life that has humour/new tech/social implication then post about it (check for repost first). Stop worrying about reactions, either you will unconsciously adjust to the weird form of normality prevelant in The Lounge, or the lizards will get used to you. Not everyone's funny-bone is in the same place and most of us are not surgeons.

Why leave? Like everywhere else, there are social norms to life in the lounge - and most new members fall foul of them. Some of my earliest posts here are truly cringe worthy - and there needs to be a period of adjustment from all parties when somebody new pops up and starts posting. Yes, sometimes the put downs are too harsh, and I'd be a hypocrite if I didn't say that I've been as guilty of this as others (I used to have a reputation of being very harsh on people, and I tried to moderate this successfully I hope). It seems that one of the big no-nos is when people post either, bad jokes, or something that is fresh out of a Hallmark moment. The sign of a successful lounger is that they adapt and adopt their own voice which people come to know and appreciate. I, for one, hope you stick around and keep posting.

Well Said. Without fresh blood it would become very stale. It is just a learning curve and I do not think this member is beyond redemption. (Unlike a few others in the past we could but will not mention).
