Well there's smart-lazy and there's dumb-lazy... Smart developers allow themselves to save time, do it right the first time, and make maintenance easier. "A stitch in time saves nine." Dumb-lazy will just whip off one-off reports. Smart-lazy will write them down so you can repeat them easily. (There's no such thing as a one-off report.) "Don't put off for tomorrow what can be put off until the day after tomorrow." There is also the factor that sometimes procrastination pays off -- if you have a manager who often changes his mind, then you probably shouldn't jump at every whim, wait and see what he really wants before spending a lot of time on a moving goal. Dumb-lazy will become indispensable because they are the only one who is able to produce reports. Smart-lazy will be looking for a new job because the secretary can produce their own reports with the neat tool that smart-lazy made for them. Sad, but true.

Whenever I have a supervisor the number one criticism I get is that I work too fast. I would rather finish a task immediately than to wait. I pay all of my bills the day I get them and not the day they are due. Personally, I find it to be a great stress reliever as nothing ever comes up that blows my schedule. Btw, the number 2 criticism I get is that I won't work late on Friday for something a manager told me about at the last second. Number 3 is that I am an absolute A-hole. But everyone here already knew that.
