It worked nicely for me because they gave me the modem to test for 48 hours. It worked great (I'm apparently right by a tower) so I signed up. I have a 12-month lease with my apartment, so I figure I'll be covered for a while. And since the setup fee that I saved on was larger than the disconnect fee (though, that's apparently a recent change in their policy), I figure it wouldn't be too bad if I moved to a place that no longer had service.

Agreed in your case it's not such a bad deal. They must have changed policy since I had it some 4 years ago, there was no Try-before-buy. At the time my credit was whacked and I couldn't get anything else so for me it was either them or nothing.

I'm paying about 1700 INR a month for a 4Mbps connection (25 Gig data transfer limit per month). No yearly contracts available with my provider. So, it's about 440 USD a if I calculate it for a year.

It's time for a new sig. Seriously.

Less for twice the speed but capped. Strange, I would have thought India was even cheaper. Still beats here though.

I live in Florida where everything is high and wages low. I have a package deal with local cable co. for Basic cable (Required for Internet) and Internet for $115/mo so I figure if I split the price between the two it's still $57.50/mo or $690/yr. The only plus is that it is fast.

Any download caps? How fast? Support? I'm betting it beats what I have here by miles.

Haven't had any cap problem and really pushed it...There were 3 of us using it and downloaded videos, music etc. constantly. Have seen it as fast as 2MB/s usually around 800MB/s so yes it is fast. Support...normal. I've had a problem and they say they will investigate but will charge me if it's not there fault so I haven't had them out. Mike

In Jordan, generally speaking, everything costs way more than it should with respect to your income. So I'm just comparing internet connectivity prices. I have an offer for 2 Mbps WiMax internet (wireless because Orange the monopolistic infrastructure owner here bites hard) with no transfer caps would set me back about $500 USD a year (345 JOD / year) and I would add another $80 USD for each static IP address or $500 USD per subnet of 4 addresses with two being reserved and two usable. So, in my specific case, I'll be coughing up $500USD tomorrow for a year, and because I'm friends with the sales person's brother, he's being a pal and is waiving the base station deposit fee. What do you get for the same amount (equivalent) where you live or how much would it cost to get what I just described?

See, if I were to get the land line based 2Mb ADSL line, it would still cost the same, but it would have a cap of 10-15 GB depending on the vendor, and there is an enforced 25% bandwidth capacity upload limit enforced by Orange who are the sole owners of the nation's communication infrastructure (this is a carry over from when it was Jordan Telecom, a wholly owned state corporation, now 45% owned by Orange and the rest "privatized"). In addition to that, you get the worst support by far. I mean, they'll kick you when you're down and then urinate on you, then light you on fire. With a smile.

I live in Northern California and pay $38/mo (including regulatory fees etc) for 15mbps down and 3mbps up with no caps (which in practice is more often 20/4 mbps), via a cable provider. At the end of the first 6 months it will go up to $58/mo. I figure that's pretty good for what I'm getting :) If I wanted to go with a cheaper plan I could get economy internet - 1.5 down and 384k up - for about $40/mo. X| I used to have DSL and it was about $35/mo for 3 down and 0.5 up.

Which provider have you signed up with. That's a pretty good deal provided you get atleast 75% of the mentioned speed. I just got the Photon+ as I needed a mobile option. It's kinda ok, nothing great to harp about.

I have 7Mbps down, 1Mbps up, for who knows? Seriously, full price is $52/month, promo price is $42/month, but I apparently wasn't eligible for the latter even though the phone company let me change to it, so they put me on some other promo where I pay $15 a month for a while then $35 a month for a while and then some other price. I've given up trying to figure the damn thing out.

Though I'm not the one paying the bill... $40 a month for their "DSL Elite" package. (Up to 6 Mbps downstream, Up to 768 Kbps upstream with one dynamic IP address.) The only time our internet ever goes out, is when our cats unplug the modem.

£90 a year, no caps, "up to 8Mb" but I can only get 3 in my area.

Comcast. I only subscribe to their internet plan - no TV or digital voice.
