Network Problem

I've got a little problem at home with my network. I'm still living with my parents and my pc (Win 7, in a workgroup) is connected to the home LAN. My dad's work laptop (Vista, registered in a domain) is also connected with the home LAN. But for some reason his Vista laptop can't even detect my Win 7 pc in the network. Any idea's on how to get these two to talk to eachother? We've tried a lot of things, but none have helped. I won't go into a list, because if I did one wrong, I want to try it again and maybe we'll figure out what I did wrong or why it won't work.
Got a simular problem with Windows 7 on my network, 5 XP machines and even a Mac Mini all see each other and can share files etc... but the windows 7 machine can't see any of the other machines or be seen.

Not sure if it will help, but it may be a firewall problem. Try turning them off and see if they can find each other. (No, I am not asking you to risk the security, I am being serious, sometimes nortons or mcafee will hide machines on a lan).

Go to Network Sharing Ceneter and check whether File and Printer Sharing is turned on on your laptop ('Advance sharing settings' tab).

Also check your workgroups - "MSHOME" is likely to be on XP / Vista, "Workgroup" is normal for Weven.

listen to the man. Seriously, I've never really seen computers in work groups play nicely with those registered in a domain.

Part of the solution for problems in mixed XP/Vista networks was to install the LLTD Responder[^]. I don't know if this might also help with your problems.

(Master in informatics if you're wondering.) The problem is that dad keeps nagging me to fix it, so he can watch my movies on his laptop. That way, he can watch them on the comfortable sofa and not the cheap and crappy chair he got for my desk where my laptop is.

I think you're approaching this problem from the wrong angle. As a former network troubleshooter for a multi-national company, with several million PCs, PoS machines, and sundry devices, I am sorry to have to inform you that the network problem you have encountered is completely unsolvable. So the only available option is to acquire a better chair -- when you can sit more comfortably, your brain will work better, to the extent that you may be able to come up with a workaround.

Are you referring to the workgroup and domain problem or the crappy chair problem? I'm really kinda confused (and amused) here.
The problem appears to be a father with short arms and long pockets.
