Maybe this thread should be titled Duff Companies I Buy Software From. Intro: almost every company I have bought software components from has provided poor or worse than useless support, or just lost interest in the product. I replaced an existing chart product (due to far too many bugs, lack of enthusiasm from support) with a chart from www.componentone.com which is excellent - it was the Olectra Chart written by KL group (who gave up). I found one bug, have a tracking number, but was told it would not be high priority. That was 4 months ago (or thereabouts). Anyway, does anyone know what's going on at ComponentOne? The web servers are down, there are lots of complaints about poor support in their newsgroups. This is a shame, as their chart was the best I could find about 6 months ago. I now use student programmers to write these things for me. I get the source, ownership, and help others starting out in this area. Any recommendations for companies that sell software compnents and provide quality support? Old Simon

There have been lots of 3rd party products I would love to be able to use, but the source code is not available so I have been afraid to use it. I don't want to put my application out and discover a bug in a 3rd party product and not be able to fix it. I have asked several vendors about purchasing the source and they think I am crazy and I am the first person that has asked that.

Sadly, the two components I don't have source for are from companies that don't seem to care. As it is, both work fine, but there are small bugs I want fixing. I support my customers 7 x 24, shame the same cannot be said of software vendors. My PC / computer supplier here in Switzerland is, however, fantastic. Old Simon
