Fast, I think, not feast! I doubt even DD could manage a 20 hour feast...
I reckon he could, especially if he made sure he was taking in enough fluids during the feasting.

Ramadan is a month of fasting from sunup till sundown, where one abstains from food, bad deeds and bad thoughts. It is supposed to remind us of the hardships of others and therefore remind us of humility. Its also there to teach us patience, a lesson that is always good. Though quite a bit on this forum might find it strange, different or even downright hostile, I still wish everyone of you a Happy Ramadan and I hope that the lessons are not lost on anyone.

I do not celebrate Ramadan except that it has 4 letters of my first name :) but I do not mind to have Happy Ramadan. The kind of fasting some Hindus usually do is twice a month during 11th day of lunar calendar. You are supposed to fast entire day (24 hrs) and preferably not even take water. I have done a few of those Ekadasi fastings and it feels good after teh fats is over. :) Another interesting thing about how Hinduism/Buddhism is different is that religious people usually avoid dinners (as it is considered that night time body does not have lot of digestive powers).

Happy Ramadan to you! It's really difficult to fast for a day without even talking the saliva in. I am sure it requires a lot of inner strength and practice. I have seen my grandmother doing 'Nirjala' (without water) fasts. But that's for a couple of days or so in a year. I can't even think of it.

Funny that being clam and abstaining oneself from bad deeds is considered hostile. Oh dear - what is the world coming too.
The funniest thing about this particular signature is that by the time you realise it doesn't say anything it's too late to stop reading it. My latest tip/trick - Silverlight *.XCP files. Visit the Hindi forum here.

Peace, and Happy Ramadan. :) honestly I like the ideas around Ramadan. Christmas had some nice ideas however it's over shadowed by consumerism. :/ poor thing. Honestly everyone has the right to believe and have faith in something, and alot of religions have core common Values, these strength us in times of need and in ways make us a better person. :) I have a question, at the end of Ramadan, isn't there some sort of party? just curious.

We also have the right to know scientific facts and to follow no religion without being castigated for it. :-D

I don't know the best response to bless you and your family, so Happy Ramadan, be safe, be well, be true. Take care.

Usually, you gain. Feasting at night is not good for you. But if you eat properly you'll lose 1-3 in the month.

Or even a blend of the two (scientific facts and following religion, not the castigation part - unless you're in to that kind of thing, heh). :-\ Flynn

Well, generally its approached with "Kul saneh o inta salem" which translates literally into "may you be safe/at peace every year" with the idea is that Ramadan comes once a year so it sorta marks the calendar :) But the sentiment is what counts and yours is gold and taken for its value with the words being right as they are :)

I remember you're a fellow Edmontonian, though I'm not there anymore :(( , but I remember it wasn't too bad back there. Unlike some American cities.

It's called Eid Al-Fitr which means the "festival of the breaking of the fast". Its one of 2 official "Muslim Holidays" (the other being Eid Al-Adha, Feast/Festival of the Sacrifice). Wikipedia has a nice wrap up http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eid_ul-Fitr[^] :) OT: How is the job market in Edmonton these days? I worry that my cousins are making it more flowery than it really is.
