Not a repost, I hope. Clickey[^] Gotta love this: Android's share of the smart-phone market surged from 1.8% in the second quarter of last year, to 17.2% in the same period this year -- overtaking Apple Inc.'s (AAPL 252.60, +0.81, +0.32%) iPhone operating system Gee. Can you read between the lines??? infringed on its Java-related intellectual property ... Sun later released much of Java's inner workings to outside developers under an open-source license in 2006, in hopes of boosting its development. Next life, I want to be a lawyer. Marc

The article(s) I read mentioned that Oracle has no grounds to sue Google on any Java-related IP as it is open source and Oracle's CEO Larry is a loon. Anyone knows more details on this?

Well, I've heard that for 20 years. I think Oracle is taking a huge risk here. The following quote from WSJ seems on the money: The suit represents a sweeping shot at the current, much admired and often resented, king of Silicon Valley by Oracle's swashbuckling chief executive who has thrived even while alienating many with his aggressive acquisitiveness and push to portray himself as an outsider. But surely open source != fair game. I imagine a lot of (most?) open source projects would at least require some form of attribution. Even the use of public domain code could get you into trouble if you made misleading/deceptive claims about your authorship of the code.

"any software found to be in violation of Oracle's copyrights "be impounded and destroyed." Get the hammer, Joe! I'll watch this one with interest, because if Oracle gets a win, it's quite likely that they can go after just about anyone who has used Java as a development platform.

I wanna be a eunuchs developer! Pass me a bread knife!
