Usb 2.0 Problems
-
I am working on Acer 5050 Laptop with External 500 GB Sata Drive. The problem is the USB drive works in Usb 1.1 Mode only. It does not operate on USb 2.0 Mode . How Do I update the USB controller driver? All help will be appreciated. Cheers

if this[^] is your computer, then it does have USB 2.0 (which could be running at sub-standard speeds if something were wrong with the driver). So the major hardware is OK, for the software check under "Device Manager" (or experiment with another external USB disk). if your USB peripheral is the limiting factor, and too slow for you, throw it out and buy a new one. They come in all sizes, colors, and prizes; here[^] are just a few examples. BTW: don't mix USB1.1 and USB2.0 devices on a single bus, you'll probably end up getting the slowest speed present for all devices. :)

Try plugging the drive into a different computer to see if the drive might be the problem.

Now that is good to know! Something along those lines might be why my access to the internet is slower via my laptop's wireless connection as compared to my desktop's connection (a problem that has plagued me for some time). Think I'll look into this again tonight. :)

Many laptops are probably like mine - a mix of USB1.1 and 2.0 ports. Try a different port.
