I have been using Windows 7 for a while now. I don't like it. Windows XP runs better, and I know it better. If Windows XP has some maleware installed on it, I can tell without having to run any scans because of the noises my harddrive makes and simple indicators on my screen. With Vista/7 however, it feels like my computer is infected with 100 different viruses. Why is it so damn difficult to make a light-wight, simple, and clean operating system similar to XP? This is just ridiculous. I'm tired of the bloat and over engineering.

I really like it - beats the hell out of Vista, anyway. I've updated all my machines except an XP laptop, and I think I'm going to take a crack at that, too. FWIW, I've gotten (Hi, DD! :-D ) into the habit of buying the MS 'Inside Out' books for each new rev of Windows. I find them to be helpful. Maybe you should get the one for Weven; it might ease the transition. Although I admit my next OS-related project is going to be trying to install OS X on my new desktop box. :)

Turn off indexing; it will make access immeasurably slower, but reduce the noise and extend the life of your hard drive.

I've never seen even a scintilla of difference.
Neither have I, but I've had customers bitch at me for turning it off because they claimed it slowed things down. Just covering my butt... ;P
