    hello Is it a big job to integrate a ecommerce site with Visa/Mastercard, in comparison to say Paypal? What needs to be done (setup merchant account?) before I can even start test with their API's (Ftp? Web Service? Http based? What's it like? Can we get doc on API before even sign up, is it publicly available)? Thank you

      I would think that, as usual, Google is your friend for finding out general information. Probably best to find out things for yourself and then come back with more relevant questions to particular points rather than sweeping statements.

                  You need to learn what are the ISO financial protocols, how to make a parser for them, what is cryptography, how to work with binary data and another one hundred things. Better try to find third party solution/library if you have no idea what you are starting.
